As a new canoe sailor, I have made one of the biggest mistakes ! In an effort to get the sliding seat to slide I sprayed a smallamount of pro-lube on the carriage. It since transpires a small amount is FAR TO MUCH. It would appear that you only should show the can to the seat. So, now as soon as the boat heels at more than 2 degrees, or a gust of wind hits me in the back, or I sneeze the seat shoots off to leeward (with me still on it !!)
So; can any one help - How the hell do I get rid of the bloody stuff ?

While I like Neil's suggestion more, I'd wipe it all down with white spirit - it gets rid of silicone based polish, so I suspect it would do similar for prolube. Glad you posted this, as I was going to use it on my new seat...
When you sneeze, in normal sailing position, shouldn't the seat fly to windward?
I remember adjusting my bum on the seat of my original minisprint and finding myself stranded in mid air like in a roadrunner cartoon...amazing how much time appears to pass before the big splash!

What I should have asked at the same time of course was.......Has anyone got an alternative to Pro-Lube ?
Someone did suggest copper slip, but would that get a bit messy?

Hi,
The construction of the Hornet plank is different I think so I dont know if it would work but I rub a candle (on its side) along the friction points. That seems too work but it can also be too effective.

To be serious for a moment, just about anything that lubricates has the ability to attract dirt and grit leading to wear ultimately and, as we all know, when sailing the grit gets everywhere. Sooooooo - nothing greasy. Oil and grease for long term lubrication (and lack of wear) is only really effective when the bearing is sealed and the muck can't get in. Strange isn't it that one should be looking for "limited" lubrication!!!!
Ed is right! The Minisprint seat was wood running on GRP. In the tack, it would jam, and I would get very wet as the boat capsized on top of me. The seat would then pop up in the air, nice and wet, and would run perfectly until it dried out again. On days when not too hung over to remember, I would wet the seat regularly. When hung over, the seat would generally wet itself (as would I, on occasion!)
