Swapmeet at the Nationals?

Post by Stephen Hawkins »

It occured to me......Whenever my father began a sentence in this way, I always knew it was going to cost me, one way or another! But not in this case.

However, it occured to me that since many of us have sheds full of old tillers, rudders, fittings and sails that we could bring them to Whitefriars and have a bit of a swap....?

Obviously only stuff you want to see the back of....And only in the interests of clearing a bit of space for something of a little more use....We can't all go home with more than we came with can we?

Discuss?

I certainly have some rudders, wooden booms and centreboards going spare.

I am on the look out for some tufnol blocks for Planet. Decided to put her as original as possible.

A couple of blocks for the main sheet and a kicker arrangement would be nice. I have some stainless blocks on the mainsheet and what looks like an early Laser kicker - all work well enough but are not 'period'.

I also have a few tillers and old extentions amongst other things.

Perhaps we should set up a table......

Cheers

If we are all willing to keep in the spirit, and don't see the things we have donated on ebay a few days later, this could work very well indeed.

I have some tufnol blocks.... and other like old stuff. Certainly happy for them to go to a restoration project for a bit of love. I'm needing a Finn cover (any condition would be better than the one I have now) and a launching trolley that would suit an OK.

Not sure if posting on the forum is a great way to do this tho - its going to be a bit clunky if we all start doing this! Perhaps a marine version of freecycle (but with a CLOSED membership so we do not get fleeced by e-bayers!).

If it's tufnol you want, l'Abordage A l'Abordage in France (http://www.alabordage.fr) have a vast range of blocks, cleats and other fittings in tufnol, plus many other classic fittings.

N18 mast - actually, possibly yes as I would like to get the boom on the skua a few inches higher from the deck. It would involve some surgery to the N18 mast (I need about 26') so if someone needs it un-modified that would be a better use...

Hi John,

I have a couple of very long Needlespar masts that might fit. I can measure them up over the weekend.

You didn't mention whether it was wood or ali?

A N18 mast would most probably work well in a Jollyboat. Often have people asking....but no-one currently looking that I know of.
