Did you go?

My son sailed in another L2K and was 20th, I was 60th. A good sail though.

Yep, i was the little fella in the yellow laser, overpowerd at times as we entered the Swale! Came in 85th after a bad choice at the start. was one of the first boats over the start line, but at the outer mark, big mistake!
Im suffering a few aches and pains now though, but looking forward to next year, and cant decide which boat to take?????

Just coming up to the bridge where we have to capsize.............

Me finding out that 5 feet 8 inch cannot stand up in 7 feet of water, so have to swim against the tide towing the Laser!

Coming in at the end, never again on a single handed boat!

I did the same at the bridge but could just touch the bottom. The helm also jumped in and had his non waterproof mobile phone in his pocket!

I will go again next year, perhaps in J9.

You make me very envious, the IOS race has been on my 'must do' list for years but I've not managed it yet. My boat of choice though would probably be my laser, having sailed a Nore race in the past and several Pill races in the Finn!

What sort of keelboat?

The other problem would be the depth of water generally. A number of times the centreboard was being nudged up and a couple of times we had to take it up completely.

Caught the dagger board on the laser a couple of times, nothing major though.

I went round in the not so old Albacore, also made the mistake of starting at the outer end of the line, and ploughed a furrow up most of the Swale with the centreboard and rudder. A big bunfight at the bridge with about four large cats, ended up 65th. Always enjoy this race and plan to go again next year, would not contemplate doing it in a singlehander though.
