There is probably a shortage of of affordable MX-Ray sails available but the rig from a lightning 368, or Europe should be an easy, reversible experiment.

I like the box rule though as that allows the Aquabats and Beachcombers to play :D

If you have an "unlimited" option, how about two hulls grafted to a Tornado tramp, beams and rig?

Oh, the MX-Ray sail is just an experiment.

It most probably won't work....but it should teach me something, which will be used for the next version, which I imagine I would most probably make up myself.

cheers

As far as racing Minisails goes, the rules are fairly tight in some departments, but allow plenty of ways of keeping the thing flat. Personally, I think doing anything but having one design racing would kill off any slim chance of getting more boats on the water.

But as far as playing with the hulls goes, do anything you like, and take it for a blast. Once you've broken it, take it back in, mend it and try something even more outrageous. Just remember to take photos or film it and send it to me to put on the blog!

Basically US slang for restricted or development class rule.

Hi Jim,

I had thought of it as something slightly more specific than that - basically a set of box dimensions within which a hull has to fit. Within that, people are free to change the shape.

It would obviously be possible to design a box rule to fit the Minisail, Aquabat, Beachcomber etc into, with extra rules to keep the scow shape on any new designs, but I'm not sure who would design a new boat? As all of this type of boat are cvrda qualified, racing them all at cvrda events together would satisfy the need to clump them together?

Great sail in the Minisail today - freakishly fast on the reaches - catching a 2 sailed RS400, and not losing that much to a Contender. Upwind, hang on and hope...

Not long now to the cvrda Nats, which means it also isn't long till the Minisail Nats.

http://minisailnews.blogspot.co.uk/ makes a start on things, as does http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/news/1 ... ps-preview on the Y&Y site.

Still time to find a cheap old boat, get the jif out and come and join in the fun!

I saw something on the TV the other day about a mgic new coating that is super slippy. They demonstrated it by coating the inside of a tomato ketchup bottle with it. When they tipped it up, the whole contents slid straight out without leaving the slighted residue in the bottle. I thought at the time "How do I get hold of some to put on the boat hull?"

Imagine trying to climb over the hull when you capsize... and DON'T coat the centreboard!
