Skipper 12.

Post by trebor »

Hi all, does anyone know anything about the Skipper 12, I want it for cruising only, I have looked at several on ebay, but would prefer some advice prior to buying. Thanks Rob.

Known primarily as garden boats as thats where they normally end up. Well moulded if heavy, they suffer from a poorly designed rig & awful stretchy sails & are normally dogs. Saying that a couple in our club have been rigged with spars & sails from broken up Mirror dinghies and are far better boats for that. Wont win races but ok for mucking about in.

Hi Keith, Thanks for help, I do not think I will be buying one, I do not want to have to start having to look for kit to make it sailable. Rob.

I've heard that both the Skipper 12 and Skipper 14 can suffer badly from leakage into the built-in buoyancy and that it can be difficult to get the water out again. A pity really. The hulls are actually quite a sweet design for a cruising dinghy. They just needed a bit more attention to design detail, decent build quality and a decent rig.
Best wishes
