Am trying to get my ass in gear and update some bits of website....

well in some cases this is more a case of finally doing what I said I would do 4 years ago.

One of those things we thought about was:

A 'members' section with details of 'members-boats'.....a sort of anoraks 'readers-wives' section. This might become the basis for some work towards helping the NMMC to get their National Small Boats Register going.....??????

No idea exactly how we would do this yet.....but am thinking and if anyone has any ideas - please do chip in.

The second idea was to extend the 'tips & tricks' with some 'rebuild & restoration' stories. I know there are a few around like Chris's wonderful stuff about building a mast....also Gary Rucklidge's report about his first merlin re-build.

If you have any possible stuff for this....can you drop me a line...don't send it yet....but just tell me what you have got.

Got all the pics from doing up my Solo (33 yr old girl) and about to undertake that Moth I've just bought off eBay - so could certainly do a photographic version of that. Let me know if this is of any use.

Yup,

that is just the kind of thing.

take some nice photos.....write a bit about it.....for the moment I won't limit length...

then tell me you have it....or send it (just tell me first) and when I have a few of them I will start the section

cheers

eib

ps Stephen, thanks for the offer.....hopefully Pat will be getting stuck in shortly.

Just thinking....in case this helps at all.

Another way of doing it.....which is a case of 'as well' rather than 'instead' is......

we do have the 'hints & tips' section, which could really do with some new material.

In this case I just want more generic stuff, if you think that you are a real expert (in my case means I have mucked it up enough times to know pitfalls) at something...could you write a bit about that.

For instance.....we are always being asked on forum about best method for replacing veneers on Fairey hot moulds. I reckon Rupe and I between us have enough experience to explain most of it.....and we should do that.

But if anyone else has anything that they could write up....go for it.

i.e.

re-gluing split wood masts
sticking together split laminate centre-boards
cleaning and rebuilding old masts - especially Proctor 'D's
replacing a rotten transom
removing broken brass screws.

you can see the kind of thing.

this would be really useful....and we already have the place to put them in.....so get writing

cheers

I'd like a couple of pages up that are targeted at non-cvrda users:
How to maintain your wooden boat and
How to maintain your grp boat

which provide basic information to get boat owners started and
these could then link on to our topics above but could be promoted as "entry points" for newcomers eg as links from other class sites etc. Of course they would "sell" the cvrda as well.

Pages like that sound like a great idea.

We just might need to put a little thought into how they fit within the current menu schema.....but sure it could be done.

Who wants to write em :-)

OK, thats great.

hints and tips about stain removal always useful
veneer on Firefly is something that I would like to do with rupe....maybe as an IRC chat...which would be fun.

stuff about nymph might do best in the 'readers-boats' section.....so good

you can either wait until I get closer to doing it.....

or put it together as, in order of preference:

html

text file and folder of images

word doc with images inside plus folder of images

word doc with images inside

pdf of it....but would prefer to make it fit style-wise with rest of stuff.

hope this helps

talk later

That sort of thing is probebly best done on the forum, as it is easier to change it when things are passed on.
I'm sure there must be better qualified people to write about veneers, but happy to give my imput. Can we work it in such a way that stuff can be added by people without having to both Ed with it all? I'm sure I've heard something like that being discussed before?

Well we did have a blogger page for a while, but I think we took it down at about the time we started the forum.

It could be that a blogged page could handle this.

will have a look, think....and chat with Neil.

Another suggestion /idea!

An open area that's designated for 'seen at' photo's! This comes from the responses to a comment I made at the weekend after seeing a Moth left lonely and forelorn in a dinghy park. In ones' travels one often see's boats just 'left' and falling into ruin - even if they're only captured on film it's a start!!!

David

Allegdely that poor moth at Weston is owned by someone and not for sale as I made an enquiry!! There should be a type of 'Social Services' for boats...if you don't take care of them thay get taken away!!:D
