Hi Dan
Glad to hear its going well, I use a fair amount of vinyl on cars for work and unless its completely smooth I wouldnt bother, as the good results are hard on even smooth new car pannels plus the cheap carbon effect ones will be a nightmare! I went for painting but mine wasnt that bad. Id try filling it personally i think.
Hope it goes well :)

I'd go the paint route, personally - I think the Carbon effect vinyl would be a short lived amusement, and might prove a veneer removing nightmare when trying to take it off again - it might stick to the plywood better than the ply is stuck to itself.

Too pretentious for words... Just paint it. No reason for it to be the same colour!
Mind you back in the day there were such things as large holes in foredecks with just vinyl covering to save weight. Not advised!

Fair enough, the hull has now been painted, its looking a little orange peely at the moment but im improving.

Look here: Image

It still needs more coats to cover everything underneath where the primer got a little thin.

With the spreader arangement Image

Does it need to be kinked in the middle like it is? Could i fabricate another one that is flat?

Does anyone have the measurement for a Mag 5 one?

Cheers

Yeah I got the photos you sent through. Do you happen to have any measurements?

I talked to a bunch of Mothies of my sort of age on this last year.
The answer I got back was that the shrouds should be offset about an inch outwards and an inch back by the spreader, and the prod (forward arm) should be neutral on the forestay. Obviously the subtleties depend a lot on how you want your mast to bend to get your sail right, and I've found with a rig of that era (Needlespar/Sanders) on my Skol that I want loads of bend in the bottom of the mast to take out luff round, to the extent that the sort of forward facing diamond the mast has to control kicker bend should actually be slack with the kicker off.

There's a weird spreader contraption on the mast that I think is designed to hold the shrouds and the forestay but currently looks broken and only holds the shrouds.

Can anyone post images of what it should really look like?

Cheers

Dan
