Post by neil »

And the next event in the CVRDA calander is......Roadford

The plan is:

Saturday
  • Race one following a welcome at 11:00
  • Races two and three back to back after lunch
Sunday

we will be racing with the RLSC, and depending on numbers may start 5 minutes after the Roadford boats
  • Race four at 11:30
  • Race five at 14:30

Catering is available during the day from the SW Lakes Trust caravan

It is recommended that camping is booked - contact [email protected] or 01409 211507

I hope to be there though it may not be for the full weekend and is subject to: the boat being finished, enough revision done for my last exam on the 17th and the crew being well

Might pop in a vist anyway

Neil,

is there any....even the smallest chance of bringing back that old Roadford tradition of a 'night-race'.

We never did them at the CVRDA nats because it was too late in year and got too cold at night. But as you will remember, we used to do them at the Whitsun event.....and they were fab.

But in June, it should be perfect.

I know there were possible safety questions after the last race in the Fog......but hey....it was such a giggle.

Do ask!

cheers

I'll ask the powers that be tomorrow. I don't hold up much hope though but I will ask.

We did a dawn sail at Shearwater for midsummer once starting about 4 a.m. as it got light - thought we'd try it because lake rules say we can sail anytime between dawn and dusk :)

**** ROADFORD UPDATE ******

I've managed to firm up on the prices for the Roadford Event.

Entry fees will be £20 per boat, £10 for Roadford Members.

Camping is with the Lakes Trust and is £3/person/night.

The Lakes Trust will be dealing with the registration.

I'll get some charcoal sorted for the Saturday night and we can take over the barbeque area.

I'm still working on the night race idea and will let you know if we get this approved by the Lakes Trust.

Neil, unfortunately the guy I had lined up as Race Officer has bailed out for saturday,we will certainly have people who can assist but in the absence of a volunteer we may need to rotate amongst ourselves.

Is there anyone at your end who might be persuaded ?

I have cover for Sunday, but as I thought we had Saturday covered it maybe too late to get anyone from the club to do it. I'll email Lakes Trust as it's organised through them to see if they can sort it.

But, we may need to provide cover for 3 races on the Saturday, one in the morning and two back-to-back in the afternoon.

As an incentive we could do an average points of the weekend for those doing a turn as RO and we may have to split the back-to-back races to give time for volunteers to get off the water/on the water.

Neil,
I could do a RO duty on Saturday if needed. I'm a bit worried if my back will stand upto 3 races anyway.

Thanks Peter, that's great news (the race officer bit, not your back!) . I'm happy to help out as well, and if anyone else will step forward we can split it between us if needs be.

Just a thought on the bbq,we will be taking the club bbq which means we can stay in the field close to tents etc for those with kids, less distance to carry wine and also gives us space for Angies Olympics !.....you have been warned

Angie & I am happy to do a turn as RO but my last effort at Shearwater left a lot to be desired. :(

There's at least one Shearwater person coming without a boat who would be happy to take a turn assisting - in all we should have plenty of bodies around to help unless they're queueing for rides on the B14 :)

The field will be better than the barbie area for the numbers coming as there will be plenty of space, but no seats so could those who have space bring an extra camping chair or two for those who have small cars/no chairs/forgetfulness... .
And if they're those foldup ones, mark them as they all look the same!!

Can't wait to get home and get packing.
