What happened to "Tonic Wines" as a concept? About the only place I've seen such things in the last few years was in the shop at Buckfast Abbey.
I've still not named the Tonic, by the way. Maybe we can come up with a name this weekend? And not the name I call her when my hip gives out...
Edit Just remembered that Alan came up with a great name for the ToY I owned - Tonka. Best I've come up with so far for the Tonic is Cata, and I'm sure that there is something better out there!
The only tonic wine I can remember from days working at the Waitrose wine counter is...

Sanatogen

Hi All,

just got back from my first sail in the Pisces. Everything seems to work (on the boat) and there was no water in it at the end :) . I wish I was in as good condition :( .

All set for Whitefriars and the Tonic vs. Pisces challenge. A prize of a bottle of Sanatogen seems somehow appropriate.

The Pisces is called "Moz" but I have no idea why. For the Tonic, gin springs to mind (as usual :? ). Call it Gordons. Maybe some sponsorship there for a new sail.

The Beachcomber lives on the same trailer so will be going as well as it is too much trouble to take it off. It is available for anyone who wants a go (or who has no other option :D )

See you all soon.

Glad to hear the Pisces is watertight - I wish the same could be said about the Tonic...
I've always felt that the "Jinnen" type names are a little to obvious - I like the sanatogen idea though - scope there - were there any less well known brands out there? Maybe I should look to the snake oil salesmen for inspiration. Can anyone remember what it was they sold in the film Pete's Dragon?

Nigel I am hoping to have the MOGO ready, but in the likely event this doesn't happen, perhaps I could attempt a lateen rig? It would give you all a laugh if nothing else!

All,
I'm hoping to attend, but as I don't yet have a trailer for my Finn, I'm going to bring along an old (72) fibreglass Solo to use on the day....should be interesting as I'm heavy enough for the Finn..the Solo, who know's...how deep is the lake?! I'm not likely to be taking part in all the racing, so if anyone wishes to use the Solo as well then feel free to do so. It's a shame the Finn doesn't fit on the combi for the Solo. When I'm not sailing if there's any help I can offer onshore then I will. I have little experience of shore duties but will try to help.
Regards,
Simon.

Thanks Simon, for the offer of help. There are some pretty big people in Solos, considering it is a small boat, and I'm glad you have something in which to come and play!

I think you should take a musical approach, think Julie Andrews and female deer, on which "tonic note" ...

Image :D :D

And judging by the events of Saturday entirely appropriate!
Today was spent being cataplted out of the Tonic as she wildly capsized to windward. In the best one, the rescue boat said I didn't hit the boat at all, but cleared the bow completely
Or to get even further away from the musical Root, how about...

....Another musical idea...how about "The lost Chord"

You found a lost class,

You found a lost Tonic (take note now)

so... musically you might say in the words of Jimmy Durante

Remember this?

I'M THE GUY WHO FOUND THE LOST CHORD
(Jimmy Durante)
Jimmy Durante

I was sitting at my piano, the other day
But my mind was ill at ease
They were coming to take it away that afternoon
I was all by myself in a mellow mood
Improvising symphonies
My right hand was playing Mozart's minuet
And at the same time my left hand was playing; have a banana; from Carmen
And at the same time my mouth was whistling a sextet from Luicini
And at the same time What do you think my foot was doing?
While keeping time it was cracking walnuts; see I had to eat too.
Then in the midst of all soliloquy
I found it, I found it
The Lost Chord, The Lost Chord!
So let's celebrate I'm feeling great
I'm the guy that found the Lost chord
I'll have my name in the hall of fame; cos I went and found that lost chord

Everyone knows Tchaikovsky wasn't recognised for 300 years
Brahms wasn't recognised for 400 years
Beethoven wasn't recognised for 500 years
But I can't wait that long I've only got two changes of clothes!

People said I was mad. but that didn't trouble me
They said Mozart was mad
They said Puccini was mad
They said Louis was mad
Who's Louis? My uncle, he was mad!

So let's celebrate I'm feeling great
I'm the guy that found the Lost chord

You know it wasn't easy finding that Lost chord
Working in my attic I didn't sleep for days and days
I'd be in terrible shape if I hadn't slept nights!
First I put an A flat with a B minor
Then I put a B minor with and F major
Then I put and F minor with a B major
Then I tried an A and a B and a B and a C
And a C and a D and a D and E and an E and a F
And a F and a G; What a piano no apostrophe's !

And this is what I came up with (plays wrong chord)

What's happened that isn't the chord (plays wrong chord)
Neither is that (plays wrong chord)
Neither is that (plays wrong chord)
And neither is that! I lost the chord a catatstrophe
I'm gonna sit down on the keyboard of this piano until the chord is return

(sits down bum plays the right chord)

That's it the lost chord! I found it, I found by sitting on the piano keyboard
Strange I usually play by ear!

So let's celebrate I'm feeling great
I'm the guy that found the Lost chord

You know what, Micheal, I've heard of the lost chord all my life, and never actually known what it was from!
Are you joining us on the 29th, by the way?

So, how do we convince Neil that we are still on subject?!
That was fun, anyway!
The other name is a little to close to what the British Moth was. She was Do-nut when I got her, but as she was found on a rubbish tip, Doh-Nut became her name, with a nice pic of Homer on the aft deck where the boom lands.

Remember that Morecambe and Wise also did a great little scenario with a plastic cup impersonating Jimmy (the Schnoz) Durante - "sittin' at my piano" (the other day).

Not sure about the Tonic landing it's helm in the wet stuff BUT - had anyone stayed on at the show on Saturday they'd have been swimming in it and no mistake. The fact that it was rum flavoured and ruinous to one's mental state is incidental.

It is the first time in my life that I have had rum tasting egg and bacon on a sunday morning though! I was hopeful of an appearance by the good Dr. of Gosport who could have put a pained fellow out of his suffering... but just like in real life, doctors are like policemen - never around when you need one.

When searching for the lost chord, can you also keep your eyes open for the million or so brain cells that seem to be lost following Saturday night?
