Guys, the hog roast has been booked and there will be a bar set up in the barn if the weather is inclement, which we have not ordered so it will be outside.
The burger van will be open each day next to the race hut, and at this time we have plenty of water and we promise not to drink too much of it before the event.
We are finalising a few things and as Neil and I both live within minutes of the lake we will be able to point you in the direction of most of your needs, unfortunately there are no pubs within walking distance, but it has never stopped us from having a good do yet .

Hi Brooksey,

am all booked for Torquay next week - will you be there? See you in the bar at the RTYC.
Did you see that the sister ship to 7989 - the one and only 'Ethel' came and went within the week on the website?

BTW - did 7989 ever have a name - other than 'Palm court cafe'???

7989 is awesome though....was sailing upwind t'other day when I bashed me finger (the poorly one injured when redoing a Contender). Even with crew out on wire I could just drop the tiller into my lap to suck the gorey bits.... and the boat just carried on tracking upwind.
Boat and crew ages added together are now in excess of 150!!

It will be good for the boat to return to Roadford...willl you be there with the FD in August?

Hi David,
the Finn will be the weapon of choice for Roadford as we are hoping to attract a dozen, but as Im not pot hunting it would be nice to give the FD a run out to keep you honest.
As for Torquay its looking increasingly unlikely at the moment with crew and work committments but may be there on the Sunday.
I'll ask Neil Drew what the 505's previous name was, he'll be happy to see it at Roadford but he's now evolved into a Finn owner, so be careful it could happen to you.

Brooksey

To paraphrase a certain US tennis player

"you have GOT to be joking".

Why would anyone swap sailing a wonderful 505, albeit a 'classic' - for an uncomfortable lumpen lard arse like the Finn. Results are not at question here - what is though is the sense of fun, the 'grin factor' one has when coming ashore after sailing the five-o with the big kite.

Awesome - just awesome......... love it to bits.

step the new mast tonight and will sail to see if all is okay for next week

Hi Guys
There's normally a Bar on the Saturday Sunday evening. Most of us turn up which stacks of wine and crates of Ale which soon gets shared and drunk. Tesco's only 8 mile away for when we run out.
Cheers mines a pint of Indiana's Bones.

A quick round up of local facilities

Village Inn, Ashwater - http://www.ashwaterparish.org.uk/business/villageinn/
Harris Arms, Portgate - http://www.theharrisarms.co.uk/
Clovelly Inn, Bratton Clovelly

Nearest shop is in Lifton - http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?sourceid= ... e&resnum=1

Also in Lifton are several pubs and restuarants, such as,
http://www.arundellarms.com/ - does bar food as well
http://www.tinhaymillrestaurant.co.uk/
http://www.liftonhall.co.uk/

If you are feeling rich try Percy's - http://www.percys.co.uk/ or Lewtrenchard http://www.lewtrenchard.co.uk/

Launceston has the main shops - Tesco, Co-op and a Lidl for Gary. The local bakers in Launceston do an excellent pasty.
All the Chinese takeaways are goods but See's is excellent. There's also an award winning fish and chip shop.

If you can't live without luxury there's a Waitrose in Okehampton (with a Lidl next door for Gary)

The nearest chandlery is in Plymouth, but between me and Graham we should be able to supply most spares/tools/epoxy/brummer/rigging etc

We've never before paid for parking if we are camping or sailing. Usually we've managed a deal for an all-in fee for sailing and camping for two nights. Neil may have more info on that as the local contact but we're down there 12th-14th June for a Shearwater away weekend and will sort out any more details then.

parking is free. unless you drive to the Lakeside tearoom/restaurant on the other side of the lake where there's a pay and display car park.

Its a nice sail to the tea rooms and they dont seem to mind soggy feet on the floor. The Ice creams good on a hot day.

Thanks for the GPS info on Devon Lidl stores!! You will be pleased to know that I was the first customer through the till at the grand opening of my (now) nearest Lidl store this morning with the purchase of a shorty wetsuit so I suppose that in the space of 20mins I voted for Europe twice!!!! CVRDA strikes again!!!!!!! They also have "diving" neoprene boots for about £7.00.

Gary congratulations, you should get a discount from Lidl fore the amount of missionary work you do on their behalf!
Those boots may come in handy if you continue your capsizing on the other hand don't buy them and it will discourage the invertions!
Simples.

Garry a word of warning. The neoprene diving boots may seem like a bargain but they have no grip on the hull of an upturned boat. Chris B and I both had some and found it very difficult to right the boat.

I have found that Tribord boots are great

Good solid sole so yyou don't feel every sharp stone below your feet. Robust, good price.

http://www.tribord.com/EN/boots-dg300-3584559/

As far as I know they are not available mail order - my son lives in Manchester and there is a shop round the corner from where he works. He gave me a present of a pair three Christmases ago and they are still OK and Trish has an as yet unused pair.

I agree the Lidl boots look poor (I'll likely lose my "best customer" status for this blasphemy!!!!
