Roadford 10th Anniversary Event. August Bank Holiday Weekend

Post by roger »

Please could you all on your travels and at your local clubs promote our 10th Anniversary Event at Roadford. Details are just being finalised but a band is booked and the BBQ will be up and running.

I hope there will be an ad and an article in the Summer Firefly Bulletin, which is being put together at the moment.
What band is booked? Sally Army Band or Sex Pistols tribute act?
I'm also planning to do the Y&Y 4 event roundup with a plug for it for the August issue.

Neil,

I have been asked by Angie to let us know exactly what is being arranged as far as catering is concerend. Is it Barbecue on Saturday night (bring your own meat?)
Hog roast on Sunday?
and cream teas Monday.

Is this correct ?

Of course there is the excellent waterside burger van for all the extras but what days will it be there? Will it be around during the week before?

Also what is the sailing format? Is it the usual casual sailing and fun stuff on Saturday including sail past, Concourse etc.

Racing Sunday and Monday?

Many thanks Rog.

ps could these details be posted on the events page for the casual browser to pick up when deciding whether to come or not.

Just confirming the details with SWLT

Yes to the the bring your own BBQ on Sat, Hog Roast Sunday (Pig and band are booked), Cream tea on Monday. I'll confirm entry prices soon.

We are looking at a sailpast on Saturday. CVRDA boats can join in on the Goodacre racing on Sat if they want to use them as practice races, but the CVRDA Racing will be 3 on Sunday, 2 on Monday.

Ross will be emailing me a poster this week.

Currentlly we have about 40 boats coming for the CVRDA and the same for the Goodacre.

talking of bands (and being completely off-topic)....

a friend of mine was taking her boyfriend up to Oban for Hogmanay. He wasn't that keen till he heard that the 'Red Hot Chilli Peppers' were gigging there....He was thrilled and asked her to confirm and buy tickets......which she did, but let him turn up before letting on the band were the 'Red Hot Chilli Pipers'!

Ha!

The deadline for copy for the next Shearwater log is 14th July - can we get the poster by then Neil, for inclusion and would anyone like to put some words together for it? The club has organised the fixture list to leave the weekend free of racing for us so let's advertise.

I will email Catherine some text. Have we got any posters we can put online for club members to print. Hugh was going to try to talk some of the Budworth Snipes into coming and a poster in the clubhouse could be useful.

The cvrda appear as 2nd billing everywhere? Are we are hang on event to the Roadford open, or the main event?

One thing that has worried me in the past when the Roadford racers have been out is getting clobbered by the faster modern boats. I had a modern cat of some sort coming down from above on a beat and sailing straight into the side of me with no apologies or attempts to get out of the way.
Would it be possible to start the races far enough apart to make sure we don't get too muddled up with the modern fleet? 5 minutes just doesn't work.

There are two events happening at the same time. There's no 1st or 2nd billing, just hopefully a great weekend of sailing.

Hi all, I am aiming to be at the lake but sadly will be without a boat - though Merc 101 may still appear with its new owner.

I will be up for crewing if asked but will have to ponce sailing kit as all my stuff will be en route to Aus by then. My residency visa came through today after three months, and am packing up to get over there asap. Sue went a few weeks ago as her new job wanted her to start straight away, and she's left me with all the hard work of stuffing my home into a container!

Might be camping and if I do will be holding auction of tent, etc. on the last day. Also, anyone wanna buy a Fireball?

Cheers

Bob

Details and a poster to download and print are now available from the news page. It's a rather large poster to download so do it once and save it to disk (right click and "save target as") - maybe Neil can shrink it a bit?
