Yes, I think I did pencil you in as a maybe, so you were in the 10.... However it is now at nearly 20, and that is not allowing for people that will decide nearer the time. If we get over 50 (WOW) we will need to split the start, not sure we have the space in the schedule, but if we get that sort of turnout anything is possible.

As it stands at present, there will be good CVRDA racing at Oulton Week..

Will your daily reports only cover the dinghies, or maybe give people a feel of the cruisers and half deckers? As Nic Asher will be sailing a half decker (Against AG) it may also be interesting....

Jon,

sadly DSM are only wanting details on what happens in the dinghy world - but if I can find an outlet for the other results then I'll do it.

be good though to get some good publicity for the event

WOW.....

If I include all the maybes and possible, we are going to have nearly fifty boats at Oulton Week. Of the definite people (and I will use that term loosely so far from the event!) we have over twenty!!

It must be the place to go this year with your classic boat!!

sounds great Jon - all the signs are that this is heading for one of the few 'featured' events for the year. I think the age of the event report in the magazine may be long gone, the web is actually the best place for these as they can be uploaded close to 'real time'.

And that is my intention for OBW2010. I'll have the mobile office with me (the camper van) and either from there or from the club I'm working on a plan that will see daily updates loaded onto the web - if poss with pictures too.

We'll talk at the show about the possibility of other 'practical' help we can arrange.

Pat - would we be able to have a cvrda membership list? Could we maybe do a prize for the best placed CVRDA member? If we know how he/she is, then I'll take the action point of getting a pic of the recipient with the prize and get that up on the web too.

Other ideas.... have we enough funds in the CVRDA to do a bow sticker for the classic boats at the event? At the very least we should have a CVRDA get together, complete with drinks (note Dave C...drinks not drunks - that comes later) one evening.

The name of the game has to be 'self promotion' - the more media exposure we can give the better.

If we get over 50 boats will we be eligible for the the 50+ club in that other yachting mag, or is that just for nationals??

Jon,

Sorry, I think you'll miss out on that one - else I can see things like fed week and a number of other events also clamouring for inclusion.

But - anything more than 30 in today's 'reduced circumstances' will be worthy of as much coverage as I can squeeze on either the page or the website.

will there be a photographer there taking any pics? That always helps with the reporting!

Just a small point, Bow stickers and paint and varnish generally don't mix very well.

Perhaps bow tapestries would be more in keeping. Has anyone one of those posh knitting machines that you can connect to a computer?

Photographer, YES!! Richard Johnstone-Brydon, the much published Author and Photo man will be there. He specialises in classic boats.. Although, as in all business, he may demand a charge for the use of his photo's in DSM.. (we may be able to negotiate something for the website)

Jon

PS I have E:mailed Richard, to get his approval... He does guard all his output very carefully, so there is no guarentee yet....

Still no entry details on the WOBYC site. Does anyone know something I dont. Seems to me that if there are 50 odd from here plus all the other stuff space could be tight and I would hate to miss out having spent a fortune on the campsite we are on.

Oulton Broad has always been crowded off the water, fortunately there are (Club Dinghy Park aside.) lots of places scattered around the Broad and friendly hospitable locals, you can be very sure of safe, easy launching and secure parking. Jon will I am sure have this in hand.

Parking will most definitly not be a problem.....

The Broad will handle 50 dinghies very easily, and as in the past there is space for everyone.

Not sure why the provisional programme is not on the website, I will talk with our webmaster (I love that term - sounds like it's from Doctor Who!!). We do allow pre-entry for the week although that is normally organised a bit nearer the time (and if memory serves may be slightly cheaper), although there is no problem entering for the week at the start of the week or even entering daily for specific races.

I can provide a copy of the provisional programme, for any one that is interested. Contact me on my E:mail (you will love this address!) dinghysailorjon@btinternet.com

But rest assured we can easily cope with 50+ boats.

We do not have an official briefing for Oulton Week, - but I will be around the club and dinghy park very early on the Saturday of Oulton Week, so I could do an informal briefing for all first time visitors. Every one at the club knows me, just ask for Jon Thompson, or, as I am unfortunatly better known on the Norfolk Broads by my nickname, even more people know me as ToyBoy or Toy (Don't ask!!). If I am unavailable then either Bryan Riley, or David Gooch will also be able to help! Byran will be sailing National 12 Illwind, the first Crusader built.

We have in the past, got coverage on Anglia TV for Oulton Week, however the last two times they turned up. We had to abandon the racing because of high winds. It was very difficult to get them good footage driving them round an empty Broad in a force 8. Thier best footage, was from interviewing drunken sailors in the clubhouse. We may have to review, the curse caused by inviting TV crews to the Broad (Although, I did really enjoy, in a really geeky way seeing all the technology in thier OB truck!!).

I also enjoyed trying to chat up thier really sexy OB producer, but she was not interested in me (story of my life!!!), but it was fun trying!!
