I think "Long pig" was a reference to cannabalism in Papua New Guinnea. Not sure why this would offend anyone in Suffolk (unless of course their relatives had come from or been eaten in Papua New Guinnea). The reference to Norfolk would of course offend Papua New Guinneans.

I think though Rupert should win a prize for the most suble thread diversion so far (plus bonus points for doing it to his own thread).

Sorry Jon, wrong county. I was merely adding to David's comment, the jist of which I have forgotten...Nigel is right, long pig as the term used for eating humans, but without going back over the thread I can't remember why we got onto the subject, especially as I'm a veggie...
Very much looking forward to meeting you in a couple of weeks, Jon, and I will welcome you with a handshake, not a carving knife!

I now realise that I am not edjumacated as well as the other forumites.... I had never heard of Long Pig before. Better start studying the classics, and history!!

I think I only know about it from some otherwise long forgotten joke, Jon...Don't worry, I too have left the edjemacation up to others on this site!

Jon,

you do realise that all the communications in the Smoker are made in Latin???

No.... well that makes two of us as I don't understand them either!

I reckon getting there for 9am ish should allow us a coffee (i'll bring a flask if it is a bit early to get one in the club)

See you there

Veggies could be the majority, as we are (John, Jane, Tom, Meg) and will all be there sailing too.
