Roadford Event 1-3 May

Post by admin »

It's that time of year for the annual pilgrimage to Devon, glorious weather and lots of clotted cream.

The Roadford event is on the Bank Holiday Weekend 1-3 May and the programme is:
  • Saturday 1st - registration, cruise, potter, relax, screw some fittings on the boat, watch Alan clean the diesel from his Finn and possibly a Le Mans start race around and around the lake
  • Sunday 2nd - 3 races. 1st race to start with a welcome by our new Commodore (but an old friend to the CVRDA) after the Finn sailors have had a suitable number of bacon rolls from the snack van.
  • Monday 3rd - 2 Races in the morning leaving enough time to stand around for hours in the afternoon talking about boats after the prize giving
We'll have the barbeque fired up for the weekend, so bring your own food - but please avoid the roadkill as it takes ages to fully cook a badger, though the local Beaver is rumoured to be quite tasty.

As usual the Witt/Brookes chandlery services will be on hand. Broadwoodwiger has plenty of epoxy, screws, odd lengths of timber, fittings we can't bear to throw away and duck tape should the worst happen.

The cost for the event is £30. For camping contact South West Lakes Trust - http://www.swlakestrust.org.uk/leisure- ... dford-lake

for details of Roadford Lake Sailing Club see our swanky new website - http://roadfordlakesailingclub.org.uk/

Pitch has been booked since January - unless the office has forgotten to write it down again!

Pat,

I would check if I was you, when I booked over the counter a couple of weeks ago, I didn't see too many other bookings. (Doesn't mean it wasn't there, I was reading the book upside down!)

thanks

I will check when I am next at the lake this weekend, but Bob stated he did already have bookings from CVRDA when we spoke with him on Sunday.
I would suggest if you are concerned to call them and check as there are other campers in over the Bank Holiday weekend as well, and if the current weather conditions continue it will be very busy.

Unfortunately as the Principal Contractor is behind building our shiny new stands at work, my holiday has been rescinded for this event so the Finn won't be making an emotional home-coming at this stage.

Happy??..... Not exactly.....

Just had a call from a 1970s cherub owner hoping to be at with you. Possibly a couple of others as well. He pointed out theres not much info on the events page. Any chance we can update said page.

AlanW should be putting something on the events page shortly, but I can assure all those coming of a warm welcome.
If the weather this weekend was anything to go by we should be in for a good event provided we have enough wind.
Currently the camping fields are in lovely condition and we have plenty of water in the lake with the weed which we were worried about earlier in the year well under control, and not even noticeable whilst sailing yesterday.
Please remember we have no licence so its bring your own tipple for the social evenings around the BBQ. We will provide charcoal and ensure its lit and running, but as with the tipple its bring your own.
Club members including our Commodore will be camping on site so can point you in the direction of things you may need that you forgot to pack, and a 24hr Tesco and other stores are only fifteen minutes away in Launceston.
