Bosham Classic Boat Revival June 25th/26th
Bosham Classic Boat Revival June 25th/26th
As it was rumoured that the Bosham event was for wooden boats only, I asked the question at the Dinghy Show if this was the case, and am pleased to let you all know that GRP classics are more than welcome, they are indeed looking for a good presence from the CVRDA.
I have no connection with Bosham, but from events there in the past, know it to be a superb club with marvelous facilities and a large classic following and am looking forward to doing this event.
I am told the publicity machine is about to roll into action over the next few days and details of the event will be on their website at www.boshamsailingclub.com

Great to hear it.
I am planning on doing Bosham this year.
It may well be the only event that I can find the petrol-money for
Hopefully I will be sailing the Jollyboat with Stu. But it would be good to get a good turnout for the event
cheers

You and Stu together at an event will be good to see again. I'm glad the club is keen as the chap we spoke to on their stand at the dinghy show wasn't able to tell us much about the event. The blue star is firmly on the calendar. Is anyone else planning to camp?

Do they race in the Bosham Channel, or cruise down to chi harbour and set courses there? The chanell looks narrow for racing the Skua in....

This link mentions the Classic Dayboat event on 25th/26th June.... but classic Dinghies?
http://www.boshamsailingclub.com/index. ... fd75714a02
The Chichester tides for this weekend are neaps, low water saturday is 12.43pm height 1.9 and sunday 1.9 at 1.47pm BST. The club has an additional annex and dinghy park at Cobnor Point, but i don't know if keelboats are launched easily there. The open I sailed there a few years ago was sailed in the lake formed by a boundary of Itchenor, the tips of Chidham and Cobnor as far over to the Hayling shore to the north of East Head, (north of West Wittering)
Ther'll be quite a good area of water, but not near the shoreline!

I'd love to try for Bosham - after all, it is my closest event in 2011! I could either sail the Merlin but what would be more to the point would be the Typhoon - after all, a lot of the early sailing of the boat was done in Chichester Harbour!
Could be quite an event....

Re: Bosham Classic Boat Revival June 25th/26th
At high tide, even on neaps you should have no problem launching the Skua directly off the quay outside the club, from the road by the millstream. We used to launch an XOD from this site and a 15ft Wilson flyer pilot dory. Alternatively from the main launch area behind the quay. A launch at Cobnor might be harder, but I am sure is possible at high tide.
Other than a launch in the Chichester Marina (expensive) Itchenor is the only close all tidal access and anywhere else below half tide on the Bosham or Itchenor reaches are a challenge for a keel/skeg type boat, with long flat narrow muddy slipways but Itchenor hard is a short sail from Bosham and you would be able to sort out your mooring at the same time.
It is a shingle hard that gets steeper towards the bottom but if you have plenty of rope you can keep your vehicle on the flat stuff. You may need to book a visitor's mooring for the Week-end. Call the Chichester Habourmaster about this. 01243 512300 I think.
With low water @1pm this gives a down tide race in the morning, probably into the main harbour area, all the way across to Hayling if the wind is fair, and the tide will turn to help you home. Also if you do get stuck on the putty in a keel boat, the tide will float you off again before nightfall.
Prevailing SW wind will make for an interesting beat against the flood tide, short tacking down the mud. Probably with a look up the Thorney channel, and a run home with the current again. Neaps give moderate current and should be easily manageable even in a slower boat.
