Bough Beech 30th April

Post by Rupert »

Not long now to our 2nd meeting of the year, at BBSC in Kent. I hope to have more detail soon on the events page, but basically a nice big lake with nice friendly people - can't ask for more, really!

And a good excuse to be packing the boat up on Friday, and not watching the telly...

Me neither - we are moving into the new house in Somerset that day so not possible which is a shame as I have friends near Tonbridge who I can stay with. Next year though ........

Better buy some sun cream Garry - it's fourteen degrees warmer down here!

We're unlikely to go either this year - boat's not ready and we need the time at home to sort out the campervan for Roadford and Notts.

Hi Trevor

I hope to be along as usual as this is very much a local fixture though I'll try not to arrive on a breakdown lorry. Sounds like I might be accompanied by a couple of the newly acquired Merlins from our recently enlarged fleet at Thames. I'll try to get a firm idea of numbers at our Easter Regatta tomorrow.

Lois and I were intending to come with Iska, but our plans have changed and we have the family coming to stay for the weekend now.

I've enjoyed the two events there so far and will be sorry to miss it this year.

Hope the wind is a little easier than last year!

Sounds like BB is getting a reputation as a windy venue. Shame the turnout was a bit low but sounds like you had a good time.

What were the whole results?
Sorry to have missed it but it sounds as if Iska would have stayed ashore anyway.

Trevor

My apologies for my 'no show' last weekend but I felt that the combination of my inexperience in windy conditions and a scratch crew would have resulted in more swimming than sailing (like last year when I retired after the first race). Just as well I ducked out as a swimming session during club sailing on the Thames on Sunday revealed seriously compromised buoyancy so there's every chance my Albacore would be now sitting on the bottom of your lake! I know it's the wrong place to ask this question but does anyone have a trick to avoid dismantling built in bouyancy tanks to renew failing cascamite joints?

Well done Alan P.

Trevor, please could I have a copy of the complete results so I can update the travellers' series results. A sailwave file with times would be nice if that's what you use.

Big thanks to everyone involved in putting this event on at the club, especially the start boat crew who were great.

I had a wonderful day out although my legs have been complaining ever since.

I've certainly missed something here the last couple of years but the prev meets here have been in June when I usually take a two week hol. Made it this year!

fibreglass tape and epoxy resin (a-la-stitch and glue) if the boat is already quite stiff. But you would always see it and wish that you had taken it apart and re-glued it all.

Otherwise removing and re-gluing is the only way I would think of. Cascamite / Aerolite does progressively harden and become brittle with age. So its going to be quite easy to split the joints.
