Or for the mile journey, put the masts sticking out behind, with a rag on them?

By the way, if we cut a channel, Whitefriars would run out of water...

Stephen - get the mast support as high as safely possible and secure then put the heavy end of mast on it so it doesn't quite touch the van and the rest goes over the back of the boat with a flappy rag tied on. We took the Alb up to Clywedog with the high top Tranny that way. You may want to put both masts on the Merlin as the longer boat.

The old maths rules apply - the sloping side of the triangle is longest so there's least mast to overhang. We've towed miles with the old VW high top and mast along the Merlin deck and hanging out the back but now found the triangle is better.

What you have to watch out for is Audi's behind trying to hoopla their rings on the mast  It's always them that get too close!

Thanks to everyone for coming - it was a wonderful 3 days and with a decent breeze (though a little lighter on Saturday and Sunday might not have been a bad thing - though that's the Kathryn opinion, I know not everyone would agree).

We'll sort out links to more pictures soon and the report too.

See you all again soon we hope!

Rupert, Katherine and all who helped run this week-end. THANK YOU! It was a tremendous success and the best sailing this year too. Even the squall with 29mph gust was perfectly timed just as we came in for a break between races. Great time, well run and organized, good wind. thanks again.

Haa - that 29mph gust led to our capturing of our first CVRDA trophy!

Thanks Rupert and Catherine - a very special weekend. And thanks Gary for capturing our Son Tom for the weekend. If you want to borrow him again for a Merlin meeting or whatever - just ask he would be very keen.

We were delighted that so many juniors were around sharing the fun. :D

Just a quick thank you to Rupert and Kathryn and everyone one else to pitched in to make a great fun w/e, even though I spent most of it either with a detached tiller extention in my hand or over on my beam ends because of it.

Glad everyone liked my efforts with Unit 2/7, especially those who awarded me a gold ribbon. You should have made yourselves known to me since by the end I was almost ready to give Unit 2/7 away and was wishing I'd bought Julia Dream with me instead.

A simple 4 hour drive turned into a 6 hour marathon as I had not one but two blow outs on the trailer. Luckily I had bought a spare, and I managed to get enough air into the other one to get me home. I had decided to keep the tyre pressure down, to stop too much bashing on the boat - I guess it was too low. Top tip - take two spares with you!

Anyway - a great w/e and now I'll just lie here and ease my aches and pains if you don't mind.
