Given the forecast it looks like the wooden mast will stay in the garage and I'll come Finning just for the day, hopefully staying up long enough to show how a boat with an unstayed bendy mast should be sailed!

Hope to arrive mid Friday afternoon at the club and leave boat there if that's OK?

We've now arrived at St Ives thanks to getting an early eurotunnel crossing and round the m25 before the Friday afternoon rush. we'd like to stay until Sunday lunchtime and join the party on Saturday night. And yes, I've got sailwave software.

Hi Folks,

Well my first ever CVRDA event was a bit of a 'baptism of fire'......the only sort of weather that we didn't have was hail and snow. I've no idea how strong some of those gusts were, but at one stage our little Graduate appeared to be planing upwind. Lovely to meet up with a few people and put faces to names. Hunts SC ran a splendid meeting, not always easy in weather like that, so big thanks to all concerned,

Thank you to everyone at Hunts, especially Nessa (and Nicky) for organising such a good event. Good local turnout with enthusiastic youth and an eclectic collection of boats (especially Nessa's!). Watching the Toy sailing so well (even when unmanned) by a youngster who was obviously enjoying the ride, gives us hope for the future of the old boats.
Thanks too for the loan of the "Yellow Peril" Kestrel which was certainly something different and challenging in those conditions. We enjoyed both the event and the meal after.
Congrats also to the Derby/Nottingham area members on taking the top three places - the full results will be posted later.

Thannks Hunts for another great event. Shoestring enjoyed the screaming planes just a shame the glue gave out again (on the tiller this time) A quick ride across the lakein the rescue boat after the race then a paddle around the edge found the missing piece of wood. Thanks to Tim who tokk me to the chandlers and then helped me bolt the tiller back together. Got out for the next race. and again retired with damage but nothing that cant be fixed.
Great event again.

Thanks to Mike for a more gentle sail this morning.

Thanks to all at Hunts for all the rescue cover which I managed to give a great deal of trade to. Some of the gusts were really something and the rain in our last race meant that we were wetter than a capsize but all great fun. Got Roger's mast home without incident and it will go in the roof of the garage tomorrow. Again thanks to Nessa for excellent co-ordination.

There are some very good photos here:

This gallery really shows the huge variety of boats that were there.

Thanks to Gair Matthews for sharing them.

This looks like a very bad event... to have missed.

How many boats were there?

24 boats in total, I think five or six merlins, then

1 Finn, OK, Europe, Toy, Harrier

1 Cherub, Albacore, Gull, Bosun, Hornet, Kestrel, Simoun 445, Mirror, Graduate

2 GPs, Signets

So also a good variety of boats, including all the wings - Vintage, Classic, Old and Lost!

What's also important is that the host club enjoyed the event, and the top brass were there to see how good it all was. Should be able to book a prime date next year I would think.
