Baltic Wharf

Post by Garry R »

There was some talk about Baltic Wharf but I note that there is no event listed for there. Is that correct hence our season is finished? Just planning ahead.

I never did hear anything from Baltic Wharf at the beginning of the season about holding an event this year. If they want to put on a last minute event, they would be welcome, but I'm not sure who is left there who visits this site and is interested in classics racing.

For me, the head of the harbour race has always been the most fun/frustrating - I'd love an event where we did that more and the crowded round the cans less.

Anyone know anyone there now?

I believe Nigel Osborne is still there and sailing his Firefly and Albacore but how many others there are I don't know.

They usually say each year that they've booked the same weekend next year, which would be November 19th. I think they did say but we need confirmation.
We'll go again if it's on.

Indeed, I had the following email from Nigel:
Hi, Please can I ask you to send out the message below to your membership?

If you have an old wooden boat and fancy a sail in Bristol Historic Harbour then why not come down to our Classic and Vintage Dinghy Race Event on Saturday 19th November. The days events will be:
10:00 registration £3 for the day.

10:30 brief for 11:00 race known as the Head of the Harbour ie from one end of the harbour to the other.
12:30 to 13:30 lunch. You will need to bring your own food to make use of the Cottage Inn.
14:00 shorter race with Baltic Wharf Sailing Club.
16:00 prize giving and close.

Directions refer to www.balticwharfsailing.com site on the 'About Us' / 'Facilities' tab or meet outside the Cottage Inn, Baltic Wharf, Bristol.

This will be an excellent day in a beautiful setting so please do come along. If you need additional information please phone me on 0117 9243739.
Many thanks.

Hooray! We'd planned to take the Alb if it was on so I hope they'll let the plastic tub in.

A specific aim (odd for a November event) or just sloppy wording?

I have emailed Nigel and asked if they would accept a plastic minisail/sprint as my wooden boats are tucked up for the winter.

Of course I would need to get her sorted before that but it could be a laugh(for spectators) for a maiden voyage.
Not sure iwill have her ready by then though so dont hold your breathe...

Firefly is in the shed being worked on, and Minisail sail is going back to the maker for some fettling tomorrow. That combined with launch day for the new Whitefriars junior fleet means BWSC is out for me, sadly.

My daughter, Vanessa (who is currently at university in Bristol), has expressed an interest in dropping by to say 'hello' and is potentially available to crew for someone if required...
