HOLT CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS

Post by roger »

I can now announce the Holt Centennial Regatta will be held at Wraysbury Lake SC on 7th and 8th July.

Wraysbury was founded by Jack Holt in 1956 and he sailed there with his wife who didnt like sailing in Merlins. It is a small lake just off the M25/M4. and Very friendly. Rumour has it that Jack designed the Enterprise and the Solo specifically for Wraysbury,
There will be camping on site.
At present the format for the weekend is still under discussion but may be restricted in numbers(depending on uptake) It will be open to all Holt designed dinghies.
I will of course keep you updated as details come forward.

Roger

ps there may be other Holts events if plans come to fruition.

As an 'extra' Holt celebration event in 2012 Sherawater's CVRDA event will be on the saturday and the Sunday will continue with a Jack Holt day with a trophy for the first Holt boat, ancient or modern. Details yet to be worked out but it won't be exclusively old or Holt boats but it's hoped people can stay for both days.

A list of Holt boats (shout if we've missed any) it would be great to have them all represented somewhere in 2012:

Cadet 1947, Diamond Keelboat, Enterprise 1956, GP 14 1949, Heron 1951, Hornet 1952, International 10sq m Canoe, International 14, Jacksnipe 1968, Lazy E 1960 , Merlin 1945, Miracle 1973 , Mirror 1962, Mirror 16, National 12, North Norfolk 16, Pacer 1965, (formerly Puffin Pacer), Rambler, Solo 1956, Streaker 1975, Vagabond 1958

I had forgotten the Streaker was his!

I am looking forwards to the events.

Is there a length restriction at Shearwater? Would the canoe be OK?

waterline length, with crew stood on the back end, about 6'.

Overall length, 18'....

It is a Holt canoe tho.

Ed With Gannet's recent experiences you might start with the canoe at 18' but for a small fee surreptiously slipped to me in a plain brown envelope I could get you well inside the Shearwater limit - in fact both sections could go home on the roof rack!!
