CVRDA 15th National Rally, Clywedog SC, 23-25 August
Now we are into July, it is time for everyone to start thinking about the National Rally!
Amazingly, this will be our 15th since the CVRDA started in 1999, and I think that is a cause for celebration.
The format will be that of a fun and games (and a cruise, Keith? I'd love to sail the whole lake) on the Saturday, with a chance to have a go in different boats, and plenty of photo ops, too. Sunday and Monday will be the racing days.
There is space to camp, and to park campervans - just ensure the clutch is working - big hill to climb on the way out! I'm sure Keith will have beer and food laid on in style, too.
I'm sure there will be a chance of "races within races" for any classes with several boats in attendance, but the boats will have to fit the cvrda criteria of designed before/during 1965 and built before/during 1985.
Saskia III will be there, hoping to repeat her victory of 1999, though the presence of Charlie, 14, (who was well hidden on board 15 years ago) suggests that her sailors are not quite as young and agile as they were back then!
Talking of No1 son, he is now a rather good sailor, and would love a crewing job in something fast - anyone out there need a crew?

Looking forward to it, first outing for Django this year ( and not just because I don't want to win the Broadwoodwidger again)!

I have once again managed to arrange a major club event to clash with this. Unfortunately I just cant get cover for the Monday, otherwise we would come.
I will try harder next year.

Looking forward to it, Keith. Trying to sort a selection of sails of diminishing sizes in case of Clywedog's famous winds. I don't think I've dared bring a wooden mast for several years since the last one blew up.

Chris, you might be able to borrow my I14 needle spar for the event if it will fit, I can bring it with me.

Thanks for the offer Chris but I guess your mast is hog stepped, mine is thwart stepped, I may have an old alli one I could modify and fit which could be a sensible idea.
Re: CVRDA 15th National Rally, Clywedog SC, 23-25 August
Maybe modify a Firefly rig to fit in the stronger stuff, or an old N12 rig, depending on what is lying around?

Indeed Rupert, Someone has given me a firefly jib and I have a main from who-knows-what.
The wooden mast I have used so far is a collars mast made new for one of my merlins but never used, both being thwart/deck step I'm hoping I can interchange them but I am also working on an original mast that is in pretty good condition but the glued joint has failed. Just opened it out this afternoon without any problem. Need to make the cross trees and various bits. It won't have those lovely (irritating) halyard winches though.

I am certainly hoping to come to Clywedog BUT I need a crew. Is there anyone who would like to crew in Gannet - a 1951 Merlin. Do you have anyone at the club Keith who could help out. I hope to arrive on the Saturday midday. Thanks. You can reply here or email.

Hi
I'll be bringing The Shed but have a serious leak into the double bottom which I can't seem to find at the moment.
Cheers Al
