Meeting at Hykeham anyone?

Post by sam mason »

Hykeham Sailing is about 5 miles south of Lincoln city centre and sails on a disused gravel pit of about 120 acres. Would anyone be interested in supporting a CVRDA event possibly with the vintage National 12 next season ,2016, assuming we can find a suitable date?

Sam, assuming it was a suitable date I old come but I'm one of the nearest. How many boats do you think you could muster from your local area?

I don't think that there would be that much support from the club mainly because of a shortage of age qualifying boats The vintage National 12 people seemed interested when I spoke to them in the summer but I am unclear how many they could muster. The club are keen to try something a bit different due to falling numbers with established open meetings. There may be untapped interest at local clubs

It would have to be a two day event for me to come due to it being a 4 hour drive.... I could bring a vintage N12 and/or a Minisail...

likewise for us but the format of the main cvrda event on Saturday and joining in with the club racing on Sunday works at other venues.
So does an extra cvrda start 5 minutes after the club racers.

Personally, not a big fan of this.... It does depend though on the club, but as a rule not that keen...

    Does improve things greatly...

The success, or otherwise, of CVRDA events like this does depend very much on local support, preferably from the home club or at least nearby.
At least that is what we have found out by past experience.

    Hi Sam,

Depending on dates etc and how well it fits in between other events I would be up for it especially as we used to sail there when I was at RAF Coningsby in the 70s and it would be nice to go back and see how things have changed since we were last in Lincoln.

    Best Regards

It looks pretty much like this wont happen in 2016. Keep us in mind for 2017

Hykeham is local enough for me, fingers crossed for 2017.

Sam. Depending on when I should have my clinker N12 ready. I also have sticky fingers back in my ownership which does need some joinery work but could be loaned out to any interested parties. She's a 1964 starfish and when I owned her was pretty quick!

Re the Aldeburgh meeting, happy to confirm that on Saturday the classics will have their own starts and own OOD as we will be treating it as an open meeting separate from club racing. On Sunday you will have the river to yourselves as we don't normally have club racing on a Sunday. So hopefully a good reason to come to the lovely Suffolk Coast
