Bother and blast.

can't find the photos of the big firebollock....seemed to have lost the whole roll.
I remember being very impressed with it....and Bob C (mercbob in Oz) and I chatting about it, but can't remember much about it.

I know we have talked about them before on the list, hence thinking that there were still a couple around the place.

I remember I took two rolls in the sheds. The photos were OK, but my shirt was ruined after drooling so much.

The roll I can find has photos of some of the 14s, N1 and some other interesting boats including these:

So, come on, anyone need a quick challenge....what are these ?

The auction site has the "calypso" down as a fireball 16ft x4ft. Wonder if its an ebay tape. I am very tempted to go just to have a poke about.

Very tempting to take a trip with the camera (but leave the wallet behind).

Afraid it wasn't a quiz as such....I am not sure of the answers myself.

Looking at it....I would say it looks like a 'B Class Canoe'.....but not sure....it looks like it might be a bit short for that.

I havn't really looked through my books too hard yet.

Bob C might remember from his time in the shed

cheers

Does the bidding on this kind of thing work like ebay, or is there more to it?

Rupert,

If you scroll down to the bottom of the listings pages there are various tutorials in the dreaded YouTube format..........

I think bearing in mind most have been used as props in the film industry (Spend a fortune building it...lights....camera.....action....knock it down......throw it away) it would be madness to bid without viewing first. Hired props get little in the way of love and care......when I was a Courier Controller one of our van drivers drove off with a hired display of stuffed birds on (not for long) the roof ......explain that to the insurance company!

If it were not the Easter School Holidays I might have been able to go and have a look.

Mind you, I get myself in enough trouble on ebay without looking anywhere else!

Regards

Alan.

I do fancy a daytrip. If people seriously think it worthwhile we could at least photograph and document everything of interest.

I want I want I want Canadian Canoe, Calypso, to scare the pants off Rupert with, Viking longboat to scare the pants off every one else (especially with a Hornet crew), Swallow for messing about in, very appropriate name for an ex-Horneteers boat. The Swan boat for something cuddly (just to show I have a sensitive feminine side), ROTFLOL.

I am trying to urge the Arthur Ransome society to purchase the little centreboard-less dinghy used in the 70s film of 'Swallows and Amazons'. It would be great to keep her sailing for fans of the books to enjoy.

Hi Mags...........

Are you going to try to big for 'Swallow'? It's pretty good on here, most of us will back off if another has declared that they will bid on an item. I'd love to have a pop for the Calypso but already have a new project in addition to the Smokers so will keep well away!

I looked for you yesterday at the Warming Pan, got some shots from the 1st race but having been messed around a bit by HRSC, took a (as it proved wise) punt that the weather would not improve and went to the King and Queen!! Good Call!

Whilst we are talking of legallity it is I believe illegal to conspire to "fix" an auction.
