Sail out, anchor, put a brew on, do a spot of fishing - I can see it if into that kind of thing...I don't drink tea or eat fish, so not for me!

Re: Tricorn on e-bay
This is another boat that appeared in the very early 1970s at the Civil Service sailing club at Netley. Incredibly, one was stolen...can't think why though!

Re: Tricorn on e-bay
I spent the night of the Fastnet disaster attempting to sleep on board my Tricorn, firmly attached to a relatively sheltered mooring in Chichester Harbour having decided the anchor wasn't going to hold.............a good decision, as I spent the whole night peering out of the hatchway watching a Heavenly Twins cruising catamaran virually airborne between waves (never seen anything like it)........I came the closest I've ever been to discovering religion that night!

So....
what was the Tricorn like?
when not attached to mooring in a storm.

Re: Tricorn on e-bay
Hi Ed,
The Tricorn was a super boat to sail in my opinion. At the time I was doing a lot of instructing in Wayfarers, and then sailing the Tricorn on my days off. As a direct comparison to the Wayfarer she felt more like a small cruiser to sail, heavy and solid in the water, but very smooth due to the weight. Good all round performance and very responsive, and quite liveley in a strong breeze......mine had a (non-standard) trapeze fitted, although we never had occasion to use it really. Very well built, woven mat and a heavy well finished lay-up,with plenty of room in the cockpit, and good camping accommodation. The only downside was that she sat down at the bow when sleeping up forward, and wagged her tail in the wind. That stormy night we ended up lying midway between tide and wind yawing horrendously in a wind over tide situation.......but then anyone sane (or who had a transistor radio for the weather forecast) would have been tucked up ashore that night! Despite that experience I have often thought about buying another one, and nearly bid on the eBay one......but no space available and uncertain plans re moving in the future meant it wasn't really sensible unfortunately
