OK, I'm on the case. Placed a bid, and will watch it.

If anyone else is keen, lets talk about it as it would be pointless to bid against each other. I cannot say that I am desperate to nown another boat, but if it means saving it from the funeral pyre, I'm game.

Well done Roger.

Keep me in the loop.

Not that I am interested in another Jollyboat!! I have two waiting for re-building as it is., but I would really like to make sure it stays in good hands and preferably either stays down here with us in Cornwall or goes up close to the others in Chichester area.

In fact - one of them - Sula is really getting very close to going on the fire unless someone is able to come and take her off my hands.

Remember we also have another Jollyboat up at Roadford now, so maybe we should have a quick get together sometime soon.

cheers

They are like Bentleys, Big Rileys, Healy3000's and the like were in the 60's - highly desirable but no one wants the work that goes with them. In a decade or two they will be worth a fortune!

You really must be trying to get into Roger's good books!

Well mine too.....

he owns a Riley and my Dad used to race them in the Monte Carlo Rally.

Of course you are right, Jollyboats are just so '1960s' I always thought that long extended, pulled shape somehow reminded me of the E-type or the 275GTB, both cars I also remember from my younger days.

Whether they are ever worth a fortune.....is anybody's guess, but afraid I am not holding my breath.

Applies to any boat, even with a fair degree of provenance.

The "Almost complete" Airborne lifeboat" went in the end for just £510. Now there was an extended stretched limosine of a dinghy if ever there was one!

A slice of history...
I hope to a good home from which we shall see the boat re-emerge in better health for the future.

Sadly my other half could not be persuaded. She knows I am a dreamer. :(

My plan would have been for an authentic renovation to sailable condition, and a second "big" rig (along the lines of an O-jolle) for when I wanted some fun. I suspect I might have got it for @£600 and the chance wont repeat itself. I am sure the boat would have enjoyed outings on Navy days.

It will spur me on to renewed efforts to bring the rest of my fleet/children into sailable condition. After watching the auction end I went out and did a couple of hours on the canoe. (The Name Torment seemed appropriate.) Photos will follow as work progresses.

Peeps.
I have J83 - sailed out of Bosham. See link for our first outing last year.

One thing I am without is road trailer. If any of you have a spare after rationalising your Jollyboat fleets please mail me - strapping the boat and trolley to a rented car trailer is costlly and short on 'nose weight'
Be sad to bid on a boat and trailer just for the trailer and some spares.......

Great to see Jolly Fox on the water. I remember her being done up....she didn't have a trailer then either!

Hopefully see you at Bosham this summer.

Those photos look wonderful - made me think about putting the wooden mast up again ....for a couple of mins anyway.

If it is OK, I will put a link up to your photos on the Jollyboat site.

cheers

With pleasure!
Bosham 25/26 June promises to see a sizeable gathering of CVRDA qualifying craft - and hopefully a 'fleet' of Jollyboats.
Keep the date in your diaries!
Need to ensure photographers are on hand......

Stewart, depending on the outcome of the current e-bay auction, I will probably have a spare trailer. It came with J247 and has been used as a trailer/launching trolley. It has now been replaced by a combi, but, the bearings are at least adequate, and it does have a long central beam which supports the after end of the boat. It all depends on the outcome of the auction, and the state of the trailer which may, or may not, come with the boat.

I will be in touch after the auction ends and we can speak 'off line'.

Stewart; I have been to see the boat on e-bay this afternoon, and am still interested in the boat, lots of original fittings etc.,(two tufnol winches!) although it will require a good deal of work to the hull skin in particular to get it back to usable condition. The lack of a mast is still abit of a challenge.

As far as the trailer on which it sits is concerned, you do not want it for a Jollyboat; it is about 2 ft too short! I might be prepared to carry the boat home on it, but probably not.

If I am unsuccessful in the auction I will have a trailer available, which came with 'Mystery', it is basicaly sound but will need a supporting medium for the hull. I moulded a GRP cradle for 'Mystery' which has been transered to the new launching trolley, I will try and think how another cradle could be built WITHOUT stripping my boat down and turning it over.

Watch this space.

I have thrown away 2 jollyboat masts in the last few years...

But still might have one more mast than usable hull...

We can talk about it.
