She looks nice. Probably better than mine when you scrape the dust off it.

I did not see a hint to what the spars were made of. But I assume wood.

Unfortunately circumstance prevent me from contemplating another purchase:

1. Nowhere to keep it.
2. Already having a Merlin under repair.
3. Under warning by the boss not to buy another boat.
4. Knowing that the purchase price is only the start of it!

Cant think which reason is the most important........

it's a martine which some people think was Holt's best design.

does it really have what looks like a hefty metal plate stuck on the foredeck?

It is very lovely, but I am resisting - presumably the classic merlin bunch will know it's there? You can see the boom which looks like it's a black metal one?

Nessa - it is a hole in foredeck with rope basket to hold spinnaker. These were the days when it was flown inside the forestay.

Covered by a piece of history that might even be adding value to the boat ...

Sorry Nessa, just had proper look at close up of foredeck and clearly need a good pair of specs. - it is a metal plate! However I say in my defence the foredeck spinnaker container was common on Merlins of this vintage.

Well it went for a not unreasonable £400+.

Good luck to whoever bought it.

Cheers
