Another RARE piece of Moth History??

Post by GaryT »

I saw this on Apollo Duck. Thought some people here might be interested?
I am in Edinburgh so can probably take a look if anyone wants me to.

How very interesting.....

I love this boat. I nearly bought her off John Claridge when he sold her (and that was for about the same amount of money....come to think of it). I wish I had and have tried to keep tabs on her since.

I knew it had gone to Scotland after originally being sold to someone in the Solent area. My understanding was that it was badly damaged when run aground causing the dagger-board case to dislodge. (this is not confirmed - or can't remember who told me this), then was fixed and went to Scotland where it was seen by Alan W (correct me if wrong Alan) who reckoned it was almost beyond repair, so I have always believed it to have gone to the big moth grave yard.

God, I would just love to......I have always had a really big soft spot for her.

Would love to know more about the condition......but reckon the money might be a little steep, although this depends a lot on the state she is in.

mmmmmmmmmmm

just don't have any money at moment....

even despite haveing moved on both my Finn and Conquest IC K41, which I am having severe withdrawal symptoms about.

What a rarity, am I right in thinking she is a one off? Or were there others built?

I am very tempted, but it is too far for me I am afraid, and my parents have said no more boats until I sell some (unfortunately).

Anyway, thanks for posting it, I hope she finds a loving home!

Edit: sorry, I now realise my post was a little inappropriate, what I meant was: is the new owner, on the cvrda?

Regards,

Max

Ed...NOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo..... don't say that you let Conquest go.
You must be missing it badly, I know I would be had it been mine!

What will you replace it with?

Good grief, needs tramps, ropes and [apparently most of the] fittings, and £899? I should say in that state she must be worth at least 5 quid of anyone's money. Got to be talking somewhere between 1K and 2k to get back into sailing order...

Hi Ed
Not me this is the first time that I've seen it. Looks interesting.
Cheers Alan.
I think it may well have been Mark Jones as I believe he may have had ago in her at some time.

Hi all, Alan you are correct I had a sail on her back when John had just launched her. I had heard she went to Scotland and seem to remember also about the plate case damage. She is listed at 16', I always though that she was 14', seem to remember that there was talk at the time at LTSC of running a class start for anything 14' long level rating and that this was John's idea to race it in.
Max, one off and very good fun to sail.

Cheers
Mark

It looks like she is either sold, or they took the advert down.

I hope she went to a good home!
