Its well worth having your first go on a modern sorted one though. Before I went shopping for one I had a ride on Colin Newman's very state of the art boat, and its significantly easier to sail than my nine hundred quid one - the plastic mast means its much less tippy, the seat slides across with no effort and all the rest of it. Mine's not too bad now though, and will be better if I stop playing on the net and go downstairs and finish turning the one time Cherub mast in the garage into a canoe mast... And if you're in Surrey and fancy a go on a Cane then mine's always available...

Thanks guys, I will definitely take up some of these offers!

I have played with all sorts of fast singlehanders over the last few seasons including the RS300, RS600 and Contender. These were all great fun, but after my brief spin on Ed's boat a little while ago, I have to say the IC still stands out as something very special. Running Merlin 3546 precludes owning a modern IC, but a CVRDA aged IC would be excellent fun, and no doubt the associated swimming would be a good break from the Merlin campaign :)
