GP14 no 23 - restoration project

Post by chrismartin3583 »

Hi Guys.

This hull is languishing outside our workshop. It is ropey, but worth saving. It's complete. Looks like a kit build to me.

Work required:

Decks are beyond saving.

Case is loose.

Hog is rotten at aft end of the case - I suspect that this is quite extensive around the centreboard box. As this needs to come out anyway (It's not glued in) i don't think this should be too difficult.

Bottom of the transom is rotten - a piece should scarf in rather than replacing all of it.

There are a number of "repairs" in the bottom. I think this probably wants several large patches, maybe it might be easier to replace all the ply sheets - both sides.

Good bits

Mast step is solid.

Front tank has been added so (presumably} the hog/keel in the front are sound.

Stringers and side panels appear to be ok.

This boat is free to a good home

You will need a trailer, some woodworking skill and quite a bit of patience.

I probably should add that this is designed to be firewood if there are no takers by the end of the month :(

Its a better bet than some of the rubbish you see on ebay so this would be a shame, but it needs to go.

don't burn it

I gave it to Steve as he was hoping to restore it

if its going on the fire I'll have her back and put her back in the barn until I have the time

yes

I gave her to SP Boats a few years back as they wanted to do a resto

new boats took over and they haven't had the chance too

she's not very original,

she has a ply centreboard case, and transom that was installed in the 80's, along with single seats and a built in bow tank

tbh i wish I'd of known that Steve hadn't got the time as I'd of collected her and put her back in the barn for when I finish the other projects

I still have her original sails, and I know the location of her original wooden spars

so Chris. don't burn her, I'll put her back in the barn next to GP no 7 and i'll try and make her next winters project

Well I gave it away as the only hog with the number is/was worth saving so I won't buy it just save it......

Plus it's not the 4th oldest

2,3,5,6,7,8,12,14,16,17,19,20,21 then 23

So the 14th
