Subject:
Swift catarmaran no 419
Message:
We have a mark two swift catarmaran which was built in 1970 by Prout
and has been in our possession since 1983. We converted this to a mark
three with rolled decks and a trampoline in 1987. It has been sailed
regularly at our club ever since.
Unfortunately our club is being forced to close and we would like to
offer the boat to one of your members who would be keen to continue to
sail it. It will be free to whoever is interested. We want to find a
good home for this. We can provide photographs.
I hope to hear from you shortly, if you need more information please
let me know.
It is 3miles east of Worthing.

Re: swift Cat.
Its only one now Peter!
There was a good mast, rudders and a few fixings but the rest of the fibreglass hulls etc was shot to bits.
Think I'll stick with what I have. But thanks for the thought.

Re: swift Cat.
I'm chuffed to say that I've taken on this very generous offer. Couldn't resist. Sailed on a Shearwater once years ago and it was fun! Will be picking the boat up next week and will start a thread. With it comes loads of info regarding conversions, newsletters etc which may also be of interest to others. I wonder how many are left? The numbers go just over 500 by the '80s but the Association is long gone. More soon.

Re: swift Cat.
Well done Michael. I don't think there can be many Swifts left, at all the clubs in Essex and Kent that used to have big fleets I don't think any are left sailing, but on the other hand 4 have crept out of the hidden barns and garages this year.
No 5 is still being restored but should be afloat by the end of the season. We definitely need to get together once I'm afloat.
I'd be interested in any information, I haven't kept any of my class association info from the 70s so all I've got is the 1959 AYRS paper

Re: swift Cat.
Well, if you want to convert No 5 to a MK III I have all the instructions, pictures and diagrams to do a thorough job!
Will post pics etc once I have the previous owner's permission, it would seem wrong to do so beforehand.
