very nice indeed.

Have to say though....doesn't look like a fairey hull....or an uffa fox design.

If I get the chance I will dig out the book and see what it looks like.

Don't know if now is the time to mention that there is going to be a big 'do' for the Prince of Wales Cup next year in Cowes and they are going to try and get lots of classic and vintage boats together

Could be a laugh....although sailing at Cowes does not come that high on my list of great venues.

But this boat looks luvely and this would be a great way to get something together for the event, which is bound to be a laugh.

I think Stu and I are doing it.....as long as I have still got the 14.

havn't told him yet though...

cheers

Didn't Souter's (can't spell it) build boats looking like this?

Yes, you are right -they did....

Most of the early ones were Proctor designs.....but they didn't have that distinctive chine.

some of the Guthrie Penman designs (YETI) did though and they were built by Souters.

maybe Sombrero designed by R.G.Casson and M.Souter which seems to have the right kind of chine in the bow.

Only a few designs in the Int 14 book, fut from what is there, those two look the most likely.

Could this be a McCutcheon - built at Wooton Creek on the Island?

Book doesn't have McCutcheon down as a designer but a builder.

all his boats before 67ish where J Shelley Designs. after that there was a boat by J.Ogle and then lots of Bruce Kirby designs till early 70s then Casson, as I said above, not many of these designs in the book with drawings.....but Sombrero designed by Casson & Souter does have the chine in the bow with round aft. it also has a strange little flair at the very end of transom....does the 14 on ebay have that? if so reckon that would be it. Shelley design SHDI (in book) has an aft chine but nothing at bow.

mmmmm....does have the funny little flair on the transom.

Reckon that must be what it is. A 'Sombrero' made by McCutcheons.

This is No.867, down in the book as designed and built by Souters. No mention of which design, but probably a Casson, which had it's moment of glory, but wasn't really popular.

Sombrero was a design by Bob Casson for Mike Souter. It had a pronounced knuckle, a very fine entry, and a wide transom, and it was generally referred to as a Casson, rather than a Sombrero. This design was quite successful, but it spawned a number of other Cassons, such as the Mark 2, which combined a moulded bottom with chine sides, but this did not catch on. Unfortunately, these changes are not recorded in the Int.14 book, which describes all these boats as designed and built by Souters, and Casson is not recognised.
