Good cotton sails free to a good home

Post by Michael4 »

I have just been given two sets, one white, the other tan. They are true period pieces. They look as if they have hardly been used although they have a few blemishes due to storage etc. I have no use for them. Bearing in mind that they are most likely pre war they are in excellent condition.

Measurements (given to me by the donor, I haven't checked them) are:

Mainsail 1 - tan with 2 reefing points and battens fitted.
Luff 5.4m
Leech 5.8m
Foot 3.3m

Jib 1 - tan
Luff -3.85m
Leech -2.93m
Foot -1.9m

Main 2 - white, 2 reefs
Luff -3.75m
Leech -4.07m
Foot -2.65m

Jib 2 - white, 1 reef
Luff -2.4m
Leech -2.1m
Foot -1.27m

I have pictures if needed.
Any interest? Either postage will need to be paid or I could hand them over to someone sometime at the forthcoming Bosham Proctor event

I think I have a set as well...

If I can ever find them again....

but as I start sorting out the chaos of my boat stuff, I will have quite a few things that need new homes, so will post.

Hi,

If the white sails are still available, they sound just the job for my sea ranger project.

Cheers!

Here is the Sea Ranger 'Phoenix' in the water this weekend for the first time since the '70s we think. Came from the sale at the Eyemouth museum.

Herewith sails, looks like Barny has claimed the white ones for his Searanger, which looks excellent!

Tan ones still looking for a home, the luff on the tan jib seems fine, it is wire but I can't find any nasty crunchy bits.
