What's "normal length" as there doesn't seem to be such a thing in Merlins? Luff and foot measurements are so varied.

Pat, not so, in the last 20 years or so the luff length has become almost standard

I would also disagree that luff length has completely standardised in last 20 years.

For majority of fleet interested in sailing on the sea or at nats it has.....but I was certainly aware of more than a few boats on the Thames still using a longer luff under 10 years ago. Not the bloody long mast like John&Lynss but still longer than the standard length....I think there were even some long plastic masts at Tamesis.

cheers
