Goose neck wanted

Post by nprice »

I'm looking for a goose neck on a track that can be used on a wooden mast if anyone has a bronze or stainless one. I'd be happy to pay.
Thanks,
Nick

Nick,

when I was looking at some bits down at Netley a while back I saw a brass/bronze gooseneck on a track, left on a section of a broken wooden mast that was being used as a fence support.

I've got to go down this week so I'll check this out for you - if it is still there, you're welcome to it?

David,
That would be great. I'm off to the States nest weekend for 3 weeks but will check the forum and still get email, if infrequently.
Thanks!

Thanks Keith, I need the track, or a length of it, as well if you should have something.

Track from Classic marine by the length required is fine.

Thanks Garry,
Sailed Diabolo for just the second time Saturday. Wind very light, tide quite strong with the result that it took us 90 minutes to do half a lap. Nearly reached the mark here after 75 minutes. Lots of practice roll tacking though!

Somewhere I may have a brass version if that would suit better? I'll have to dig through the shed...

I have located a steel goose neck at the Club which is indentical to Keiths first picture except for the clamp and wing nut which look to be fine on the one I now have. Classic marine have 3 sizes of track but say the largest with 1" internal measurement only has a gap between the rolled over bits of just 11mm which isn't enough. Keith, what size is the track shown on your second picture?
I appreciate the help.
Thanks

Hi Nick

Inner sleeve 17.5mm depth 4.5 gap 10 mm approx ruler measurement.

outer 21mm length 300mm. It is an old jib fairlead track.

Thanks Keith,
That won't fit the other goose neck you've got then. It looks like I'm going to need about 2 ft + of track and some slides on the sail to link up from the mast slot to where the goose neck will go. Not sure what the mast was on but probably a hog stepped Enterprise and now to be a deck stepped Merlin. The goose neck i have now would fit between about 15mm top gap and is 22mm wide at the bottom. (As per first picture)

Turns out the goose neck I found goes in an aluminium mast and has the wrong dimensions for a track. David, if you do find that brass track and goose neck, I'd be grateful. Even just the goose neck as I can get track from Classic Marine.
Thanks for your help Keith. (and Rupert & Garry).

Great news!!!

I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you but (confession time).....last year I was doing a presentation on dinghy spars and their development and wanted a 'prop'. So, I hacked a foot of the broken Merlin/Nat 12 mast that I had - and put the rest, including the bit with the gooseneck aside for 'safe keeping'. I did such a good job of this that it was only this morning that I found it again.

But... I do have a nice brass gooseneck and track if it is still required.

Can bring it to the dinghy show, baltic wharf, you can get it from Bursledon- or else will post it, whatever is easiest.

Where are you by the way.... I'm heading up to worcester next week

David,
That's excellent news! Not sure you'll be close to me at present unless you fancy a warm weather break, we arrived in Florida yesterday for 3 weeks so missing the dinghy show and not reachable till mid March.
Can I email you when we get back and see what is easiest? I am normally in Putney, London.
Thanks for your help.
