I need a Mighty Screw (or Mighty Strut!)

Post by Pat »

I need a Mighty Screw (or Mighty Strut!)

I appreciate that these things are old hat for the epoxy and carbon driven individuals but I still like to use them on my Lark. They are of course regretably no longer available new - and hence my plea.
I have no shame at using your cast offs and would appreciate it if you would rummage round in your draws and see if you have either of the above surplus to requirements. Cash and/or my wife's recipe for Lemon Meringue pie available for the right bits.

Thanks for your help (said he hopefully...)

It's a particular branded item - hence the capitals. Basically a mast ram.

This is what Chris is trying to achieve

I hope your Lark has got a mighty big bit of wood or something under the foredeck to take the load - my Jb Lark (long since sold on) did not and could not have taken a strut.

Matthew's Fireball has the deck fitting for exactly the same sort of strut - but we also are missing the fated item itself. So if anyone has two in their pfarm8cy!

!!!! Not CVRDA !!!!
Comet Trio - something always ready to sail.

Yes Neil a Mighty Screw the were not great as there was not alot of adjustment and they could dent your mast. Pat your Photo is a mighty strut. I used to have strut on my Hornet but the underdeck support structure was built in to the boat on the build. Retro spective fitting can lead to catostrophic foredeck failure. Try using lower shrouds/spods instead which is easier to do. I fiitted a set to a hornet which did not have the under deck to hog reinforcement. The result was that the system worked perfectly were both sides being at equal tension at the same time and were controlled by a 18 - 1 cascade system.

Chris's Mighty Screw was duly fitted to his brand new Rondar Lark which was then displayed at the Dinghy Show.

Hi Pat I thought that you were thinking of fitting one to Half Cut.
