British Moth battens

Post by Nessa »

I collected the bits from Cardiff and very good they are too - especially the centreboard which I will happily pass on since it is no use to me. I do need some battens, however, does anyone have some or know the size I need? Many thanks guys.

Nessa I dont know what size you need for a moth sail but i have a pile of different battens in the shed . I will bring them to Whitefriars and you can pick your way through them. Most of them are plastic but we can cut them down with a hacksaw.

I think I'd just cut the battens to suit the sail rather than worry about "correct" size... The somewhat eccentrically phrased class rule reads as follows:
(vi) Battens - The sail shall have three battens of maximum length 762mm, except
that the top batten may be of any length, provided that it does not extend more than 100mm beyond the leech of the sail at any time.
The rest of the rules imply the top batten is probably unlikely to be more than 1200 or 1300mm long.
