Uffa Fox Flying twelve wanted

Post by roger »

Recieved the following email.

Roger

hi i was given your details by nation maritime museum in cornwall. as i am looking for a flying twelve the smaller sister to the flying fifteen i have asked tony dixon at uffa fox but know luck there he thought there was some at lowestoft but i tried to email them and photo to no avail.i was wondering if you had any ideas,
i wanted the twelve rather than the fifteen because the club i sail at has a 16ft limited i have sailed the fifteen lots of times and is a lovely boat so the twelve would suit me and it would good to see one sailing again.

many thanks

No Flying 12's at Lowestoft or Oulton Broad as far as I know, there used to be some Flying 10's at Aldenham Sailing club 50 years ago I remember from School Team Racing there but they were all gone in my mid-late teens when I was going to Merlin Rocket silver tiller races there. Someone will prove wrong but I would doubt any survivors.

I have seen a couple come up for sale over the last few years.....but both were re-builds I think.

Andrew Thornhill had one in Bristol, which Bob C was working on.

A pretty boat, I hope they find one.

cheers

Been trying to find pictures of a Flying 12. Sounds like a great boat. Has anybody got some pictures they could post of the Flying 12??

Were they similar to Pensive Temptress, if so, I know the style!!

Jon

Just interested, so that I may further my knowledge of classic dinghies...

I only have knowledge of 12's and Merlins. I am slowly working my way through the fleet of classsic Merlins - I will have broken them all soon - just thought I'd put that comment in before DavidH or Roger did!!

If anyone has pictures could they send them to me as I can put them on the site to keep the bandwidth (and costs) down AND put them in the Dinghy Database which needs a keelboat section adding.

Don't think I have got anything.

I might of taken something of the one that Bob was working on.....but that was upside down....and I seem to have lost most of what I shot on that day, including the shots of the long fireball.

I have a photo of 'Pensive Temptress' moored afloat on Oulton Broad.
Let me know if you would like a copy,

Hi Ian,
Know you are looking for a FF12, however the FF10 that won the Concours at the 2017 Dinghy Exhibition is for sale on the Johnson & Loftus website.

I know there was a FF12 on the River Thames just downstream from Hampton Court back when I was a member of BMYC in the late 60s. I did get the opportunity to sail it once. It wasn't the best boat for short tacking up the bank in the very light winds that predominated.

Chris - photos are ALWAYS wanted! Can you email it or would you like details to upload it to somewhere suitable?

I came across one of the smaller Flying sizes on Eel Pie island London in 1982 or maybe 3, I thought it was a 10 but never measured it. In poor condition then.
