On the look out for a restoration project

Post by Howlin »

Hi All,
Now I'm back into the swing of things I'm looking for a restoration project to take me into the winter and hopefully something to put back onto the water next year. I've got a dry barn space to use. I'm hoping to use this as an opportunity to develop skills and improve the lowly ones that I already have! Ideally I would like to work on an IC as I think they are beautiful and the funniest thing I've ever sailed, despite the constant wetting and falling in(certainly honed my swimming ability)! Having said that please contact me if you know of anything available. As ever in these uncertain economic times I'm looking to keep costs down!
Regards and thanks for reading this ramble!
Simon.

There's lots of boats on Ebay in dire need of restoration if you're prepared to consider classes other than the IC.
Best wishes

Surely with those facilities and a fondness for something a bit out of the ordinary you have to go for the Airbourne lifeboat. I'd even go halves with you (or anyone else) to make it a going concern.

Michael,

this would fit in the workshop - n interesting project. BUt... it begs the question, what would you do with it once restored! Should this be in a museum or a proper collection?

A lot of work there, even with the good condition of the project at the start!

There is another one on Apollo duck. Converted to race. Very pretty but not really a lifeboat anymore.

I think "Cruising" one of these, appropriately restored and equipped in the Solent, would give more pleasure than racing a conversion. Perhaps it (if restored to robust health) could become a focus for a local Scout group. Sailing/camping outdoor pursuit kind of stuff. As a project it would fulfill a Duke of Edinburgh award admirably.

Pie in the sky.

...but If I was retired, with money...

incredible looking though...

would love to see more photos of the interior.

Looks more like an Uffa Fox canoe that anything else.

So... are you in??

Agree about the Canoe. Look at the one on Apollo Duck, its been shaved down a bit and looks even more like a super canoe.

Someone must be near enough to get some pictures. Its down Weston Supermare way I think.

I agree with David, this would be a good candidate for a museum. If I've a chance/free time on the weekend I'll try to get over to WSM and have a lok at her and take pictures. I'm a bit busy with a new job, daughter's dissertation due in in 2 weeks and cutting the grass!

Sorry....it was the one on Apollo duck that I thought was rather interesting.

Not that I am in any way against the airborne lifeboat....just not my kind of thing. It certainly should be restored and looked after - most probably with a museum.....but as I said, just not by me!

I would love to see more images of the cut-down racing version on Apollo Duck.....but that was somewhere further afield wasn't it???

No point in getting too excited - have neither the money, room or time for another big boat!
