Gooseneck for a Strale
Gooseneck for a Strale
My pride and joy is my Strale (an Italian designed dinghy from the 1970's).
I was having a great time in a big wind the other day but somehow managed to lose the gooseneck over the side!
I have searched high and low for a replacement but have had no luck at all ... nothing seems to fit.
Does anyone have an idea where I might find a replacement?
Many thanks
Andrew

Re: Gooseneck for a Strale
Hi Andrew,
most stuff like that is "off the shelf" in some way or other so if you have photos, descriptions, measurements etc. people may be able to find one.
Was it detatchable or did something break?

Re: Gooseneck for a Strale
Unfortunately I do not have photos of the gooseneck itself.
It was detachable. It did not break off but rather just fell off!
I have measurements of the slot in the mast into which it fits and the socket in the boom into which the sprigot fits. The slot in the mast is approximately 20mm by 17mm (perhaps a little more). the gap through which the gooseneck extents outside of the mast is 3 to 4mm The socket in the boom into which the sprigot fits has a diameter of 9 to 10mm.
I have pictures of both the mast socket and the boom socket if that assists.
Any suggestions as to where I might locate something to do the job would be most welcome!
Thanks
Andrew

Re: Gooseneck for a Strale
Very much so but the pin or spright is too wide in diameter - I need one that is about 9mm
Re: Gooseneck for a Strale
Annoyingly I cannot tell as it is so old and the plate has faded!

Re: Gooseneck for a Strale
Do any of these look familiar?

If all else fails, do you have the the option of drilling out the socket in the boom end to make the Allen Brothers one fit?

Re: Gooseneck for a Strale
If all else fails I guess that's right but would dearly like to track down the right part if possible
Re: Gooseneck for a Strale
....or just find someone with a lathe to turn the pin down.
The important thing is the dimensions of the clamping pieces. I have made those by hand in the past but it was a real pain. so if you get that part, the rest is pretty straightforward.

Superspars list Strale masts in their product range. You could try them
