Used sails for latest project

Post by keithr »

I have just acquired an old wooden pram dinghy with Gaff rig but no sails.

Mirror sails a little too big.

Approx Measurements are Gooseneck to top of gaff Maximum 11 feet boom length Max 5ft 7ins.

I can't see the image, but is it a true gaff rig, with the gaff set up to make an angle with the mast, or a sliding gunter (like the Mirror). If its a sliding gunter then you could simply get a Mirror sail cut down, or perhaps go hunting for Cadet sails. There are still seriously raced Cadets about, so slightly tired sails ought to be available. If you're in the SE I think Frensham pond still has an active fleet. That looks like a very small sail though - I think you'll almost certainly need to cut something down. Even a Cadet sail is a fair bit too big.

Thanks Jim

It is a sliding gunter rig.

I have a good set of Mirror Sails and all rigging but a long way oversize and shame to cut them down.

I may try
whole Mirror rig on which is an option as well.

Keith ,Amy would probably love the challenge and is only a bit further north than you.
She’s coming home tonight...with moth shaped hull for me to do a bit of work on....blame Lyndon for that! But I’ll drop a hint for you.
