What is the scantlings for the plywood used in the clinker construction of the National 12's and the Merlin Rockets. I would guess 6 mm but since I live in the U.S it isn't easy to check. When designers reduced the number of planks did the plywood scantlings change or remain the same? Were some designs built with thicker plywood garboards?

Merlin 36'Planks measure about 7mm thick. These are solid mahogany not ply. No 507 dates from 1954 has ply of about 7mm. The current merlin rules state: (for a wooden Hull) The planking shall be of uniform thickness not less than 6mm throughout, No plank to exceed 160 in exposed width.
You could probably get a full 'rules' off the merlin website.
I think 2121 has 6mm ply, so it probably depends when the boat was built..
Sounds as if all planks have to be the same thickness.
Nat 12's original rules - boards of uniform thickness 1/4" for solid or ply.
