Dry Suit Seals

Post by alan williams »

Hi
Last weekend I riped the neck seal of my dry suit. Could any of you recommend a good repairer as this is a very pricey Crewsaver suit. If you can please contact me via members address panel, contact details for companies would be very welcome.
Thanks AlW Finn 424 etc.
Happy Christmas everyone

Hi Alan,

try your local scuba shop. Replacing neck and wrist seals is common practice on diving drysuits. They should be able to do it for you but it is pretty simple to do yourself and they should stock the seals and the adhesive. You will need to choose between neoprene and latex depending on your preference.

All the usual big names, Andark, P&B etc and of course Crewsaver themselves do repairs.

Typhoon have always given me fantastic service. My typhoon drysuit started to leak and I sent it back to them to check. They replaced it FOC(dodgy material). Then the new one started to leak on one of the boot seals. I rang them for advice. They said send it up and we will check it. Again it was repaired and sent back foc. The only cost I have incured is the postage to send it to Redcar.

Excellent company and excellent service.

I am sure they would repair yours for a good price but try your local scuba shop first. must be loads in Plymouth.

Alan,

andark - at swanwick, are very good. Buy the time you've bought the seal and a pot of two pack glue, it might be better to get them to do the job for you.

But any sub aqua shop should be able to do the repair, if not - typhoon (though i recall they farm their repairs out anyway)

Andark is a 10 min walk down the hill so if you want any help- shout

Cheers

And Andy Holmes at Wet and Windy in Bristol. Dunno whether he still does, but 12 years ago he used to test suits for leaks by sitting in the bath and seeing where he got wet...
Most chandlers will do a seal service, though. Or, to do it yourself, make sure you have a 1 gallon bucket for a neck seal and some large flower pots for wrist and ankle, and then just stick them on, making sure the relevant bit of suit is stretched tight.
