Varnish hardening

Post by Garry R »

I have put the final coat of varnish on Gannet's outer hull but wondered hiow long you folk consider it takes to allow the varnish to be hard enough before turning the boat over and not damage the finish. It's all very well the tin saying touch dry 2hrs and dry in 48 but my impression is that it dries harder as time goes by. It's Blakes DuraGloss by the way.

As long as you possibly can...without missing the start of the season! I like to leave it a week, and I'm sure there are folks on here who would say a month is better, but there have been times when I've been in more of a hurry, and not come to harm! This time of year the last bit of hardening seems to take forever, though.
