Shouldn't be that difficult or expensive to get at least a moderate amount of change in the luff round though? Especially if you have a pattern to give the sailmaker. Often quite a bit can be done by taking the lufftape off and trimming or expanding...PeterV wrote:It's important to use a sail that's matched to the mast but, a knackered sail is not a lot of good either.

Thanks all for the advice..
things to talk about at WSC in a couple of weekends then, and perhaps some sail swapping trials at Roadford in the summer - I look forward to it!

Hi I own a Taylor Finn 478 with a Needlespar rig I think a black top so put me donw for a sail and I hope to get to Roadford this year. I need other Finns to sail agains that are not Devotti or Pata! Weirwood would be a good venue for a future CVRDA event maybe.

Andy

Re: Used Finn Sails
Hi,
Sadly i can't I am afraid. I still need to fix a leak on my boat before I take it far but planning to do some events this year. Do you have any ideas on getting the centre plate out of a Taylor Finn???
Regards,
Andy

Would appreciate knowing how also - as I might need to do the same some day: could you post the solution?

Re: Used Finn Sails
Sorry, but I do not have the solution for this one, but gave Andy the phone number of Ivan Coryn as I thought he may have had the plate out of his. Sadly it appears not, and he was baffled too, but thought it may be a grub screw affair accessible from below.
So the mystery goes on.
It may be worth noting that quite a few Taylors I have seen have reto fitted hatches in the double bottoms and it was probably for this reason, it would also allow drying out, so may be worth considering.

Re: Used Finn Sails
I've just come back from Hayling Island getting the Pata lightened and remeasured.
I was talking to Adrian who is running Hawk/Needlespar and the bad news is there are no Finn Ali Mast spares left as they have all been snapped up by the German Classic guys (there's someone specialising in refurbishing Needlespars in Germany).
So if you want heel plugs, deck rings etc it looks like there aren't any left. So make sure if you find old/bent/knackered Needlespars you raid them for the fittings.

Also, would be interested in one of the laminate sails if there are any on offer.

Re: Used Finn Sails
I intend to contact Henry this week and find out exactly what he has and then I will get in touch with you all in the order that you all posted, there hopefully should be enough to go around.
Nice to hear from you Andy, I hear a rumour you may be basing your Taylor at Roadford, this would be good we are hoping to have 6 or seven not including yours on the lake regularly once the season gets into full swing and this must surely put us into double figures for the CVRDA August event.
