They cheat in that Universally Challenged. It was in the papers so it must be true.

Yes - but wasn't that posh totty awesome!
I wouldn't mind a quick furgle with 'er down behind the cowsheds. I could even show er the cut 'o me jib! Would she understand it when I offered to take her down to the low water mark and show er me mooring? "Now my handsome, here be one I laid earlier like"
As for Dr Briggs of Brockhurst... he needs a few s's inserted now and then!!
Now this will get me a detention or two from the Headmaster.........

Not sure what is going on here (I grew up in Devon so do not speak this strange language) but maybe we should book the Wurzels for the AGM

Re: Sailing In Ambridge
Eating lunch in the sun and thinking about things missing the Archers and along
comes this excellent thread!
I have been listening to The Archers on and off (sadly more on than
off)for 46 years and am astounded that there has never been a mention of
that well know midlands sport of sailing. Time for the class to pester the
BBC into introducing a story line and get sailing on the River Am.
With farmers contracting out their land they may as well get into sailing
and expand our wonderfull class in rural areas.
Grundys descended on Brookfield Sailing Club. Oooh St... Aaaarr.. board.
Dum de dum de dum te dum........
The Archers was first broadcast in 1951 when Garry's "Gannet" was built
Imagine the espisodes she has heard!
The effects of the homemade scrumpy would be so befuddling that the
Grundys would not notice they had any rights of way.
In the sixties the Merlin Rocket Class did have it's own Archers Type
Silver Tiller weekend at Avon Sailing Club paradoxically based on the
River Severn at Chacely Stock (Still there if slightly rinsed -2007
floods!)(More or less in Archers country, - South Midlands - a substitute
for the AM?) Great fun, sailing between huge banks and hay fields,in mid
summer, wonderful hospitality. Some home grown Brian's and Phil Archer's a
few Peggy's but I recall no Ruth's or Walter's, such Merlin Luminaries as
Robert Lee-Warner (Chicken Farmer.), David Bessant (Soldier and
carpetmaker.) and Ralph Savery (Land Owner and soldier.)came from there,
and it was "home" to the Avon Self bailer one the first tubular self
bailers, that we used to leave down pulling boats out and bend or worst
case pull out the bailer.
Gentler days.

Simples.
Re: Sailing In Ambridge
Methinks someone in Ambridge needs a very fast, quick tacking dinghy to escape down the River Am. Suggestions on a post to M Crawford Ambridge.
Mine is upside down getting another coat of varnish so he can't have mine.

I think they have everything and what Underwoods doesn't stock isn't worth having!

Re: Sailing In Ambridge
I thought Dave Besant was a legendary goalie for Wimbledon, before they were relegated to Milton Keynes?
I will happily nominate the MOGO as a suitable craft for sailing on the Am. Please could we also have a pirate ship to contain the likes of Matt Crawford, Uncle Brian and that chap who supplied Eddy with the special chocolate?
