A very worthy restoration.
I can almost hear Gary's mind ticking over...the ent must be almost finished by now..
Pity they cut transom flaps....but there you go.
Someone should really try to buy this one.
cheers

Noooooooooooo!!! Not so much "Alarm" as "Alarm Bells"!!
It looks as if this would be the very typical "60 year old brush" syndrome. 4 new heads and 3 new handles. And the cost would be way above the value (as they all are) but in this case hugely. No mast spoken of, no sails, no rigging - and to be worth it a wooden mast to do it properly. Loads of tingles = loads of cracked planks already. There are challenges and hopeless cases so I'll stick with Secret Water and Gannet thanks. I'll leave it to a braver man.

You might well be right!
Still....the N12 site does mention mast and all other kit...so it may be around.
Totally understand your reservation though.
I have promised myself....never another ribbed clinker boat....not even with crushed walnut shells!!
cheers

I gather that Almond stones have replaced walnut shells now! Same effect.
Wasn't this Stewart Morris's Nat 12? Named after his Int 14 of the same name.

In my search for walnut blast cleaning I contacted a distributor of the stuff, who tells me that its "very specialised" but they're going to check their customer list for me to see who uses the stuff...Ancient Geek wrote:I gather that Almond stones have replaced walnut shells now!

Isn't there a film about the salvage of an old wreck to get the gold bullion hidden in the hold? "Raise the Titanic or something?a former owner that carried out some minor restoration work to the decks back in the 50's. He was so pleased with his work that he had a solid gold nail crafted at a local jewellers shop and hammered it in the foredeck - where it remains to this day.
This might make rather a good trophy to be presented at the National rally.
"The Restoration Nail"
A solid golden nail recovered from "Alarm" still in it's original plank.
(The winner constructs his restoration around this historical remnant, in the manner of a retrieval of the Dinasaur species in Jurracic park, from fragments of DNA in fossilsed mosquitos!)

Where's Jonathan?
I would be sad to see this go. If it's any encouragement It doesn't look worse than Merlin 36 was.
I have a wooden mast from N12 I will happily donate to the restoration project.

Surely got to worth a punt at 99p, firewood costs more than that! Already got N941 awaiting attention or I'd have a go, notwithstanding lack of traler or towbar at present.
Re: Uffa King - N382 'Alarm' on e-bay
Glad to see someone has taken this on.....
and if you want a decent wooden mast just ask.
