Whitefriars event March 28th
Whitefriars event March 28th
Just had conformation from Whitefriars committee that we are welcome to come and play on March 28th.
Classic Finns also most welcome, as are Lost Classes.
Lost classes are designated as boats designed and built between 1965 and 1985 which have no class committee and no class racing. It matters not whether the class was once active and has now faded, or whether the boat never caught on.
The plan is to run 2 races with a laid back training session and lunch between. Those who prefer can be given a place in the club pursuit race in the middle of the day.

So can I bring the phantom menace, or must it be the Bonito?

Nessa, I hate to be the bad guy but the Phantom is hardly a lost class nor does it qualify cvrda.
This situation was discussed at some length by the committee before the AGM and proposals were put before the AGM. Its difficult but we have had to draw a line somewhere.
Rupert if I am feeling keen I may bring Shoestring if I have got round to fixing the spreader by then.
Fancy being a planker Nessa??

If, (and it is a big IF), I were to turn up with an Oulton Rater, would this be catagorisd as a lost class????

Lost Class?
Oulton Rater on our small lake in Wiltshire - - probably, yes!
I hope to have the Finn sailing there and the Skua (another swan in a duck pond?)

Jon, if you bring the Oulton Rater, I for one won't care what qualifications the boat has. Just the idea of that rig on our lake (especially upwind from Lasers) is a wonderful one!

Are you in contact with the rest of the classic Phantoms? While the Phantom isn't a cvrda boat, if the classic Phantoms were looking for an event or 2 away from the normal Phantom circuit, individual clubs may well welcome them on the same day as the cvrda are there, with their own start. It would mean that the rescue, lunch and starting facilities can be shared, probebly to the benefit of all, and I'm sure old boat sailors have plenty in common, so it would be good to meet others.Nessa wrote:So can I bring the phantom menace, or must it be the Bonito?
I would be happy to have a start put on for Classic Phantoms at Whitefriars on the cvrda Sunday, if you think they would be interested. What we don't have at the club are any classic Phantoms to swell the numbers, so it would be up to the Phantoms to supply the boats and bums!

do you remember when we issues a similar invite a while back Rupert? The response was a cross between apathetic and downright pathetic. From what I remember they mostly complained it would be cold...

Re: Whitefriars event March 28th
And to be fair, there was a blizzard blowing on the original date last Feb, so possibly they were right...
Might be worth running a late March date by them, and if there is no interest, so be it. I'm not worried one way or the other whether they want to come and play, but it would be a way for you to get some classic Phantom sailing in without having to wave goodbye to all the plastic fantastics off the startline.

Yes! That way it can fit in with our club racing, as finding extra race crew can be a bit of a pain.

The Hopple:
She (1972?? Int Moth) will be available for a loan, as sadly Mat will be jetting of to Spain on that Sunday rather than Monday as we thought at first
So no boat - no excuse (as long as you can fit through a letter-box slit sized gap between boom and deck and like a twitchy ride.) I can also loan a Taylor GRP Finn, but probably not for every race. But you should not be expecting to look smart - it all works, but it looks its age. (Like me ).
Meg (6St good crew - but not used to spinnakers) may be available. We (Jane and I) will be sailing Ysolt - the latest boat to own us, a Sku.
Can Tom sail an old Mirror in the cvrda races?
