s thread is like a debate in the House of Lords one learns so much off topic as it were. So gentile too, no anger, just calm humour, reason and information.

West Wight Scow,
Lymington/Hurst/Keyhaven
Bembridge
Brading Haven

Rupert are there any others?

Still thriving at Yarmouth and Hurst not sure about the others but I guess they are.
Not a Scow anorak, I'm afraid - I'm sure each village had their own variation (which no one else could spot!) in the old days...
The different plastic versions (Keyhaven being one?) also have different names, to add to the confusion.
The Bembridge and Brading Haven Scows are exactly the same, they are so similar to the Yarmouth/Limington Scows that once the jibs are removed (from the Limington boats) they can/have raced together on an equal footing.

Thanks for the suggestions but the scows do not fit the bill it needs to be a straight stemmed very traditional lugsail dinghy, there are a few around but enough to borrow for a fleet race at Oulton Weel I doubt. - You see I am careful in nominating a dinghy to sail in!

YW DB is the ideal boat for a new girlfriend, room to stow a decent picnic & wine, nice & stable & a centreboard slot for her to pee down, if she does this without complaint you know she's going to be a good sailor!

YW DB is the ideal boat for a new girlfriend
and with the added advantage of a bandit handicap on inland waters.

But the four most useless things in aboat are: A Copy of the Times, A wheelbarrow, A Naval Officer and a Woman, so said someone (No idea who.) years ago, I do not agree Rodney Pattison was a Naval Officer, The Times is informative, an one needs a wheelbarrow to carry the spare sails oh yes and many women are more use than many a man in a boat!

I'd always heard it as a Naval officer and an umbrella.

As an ex Marine I must maintain my loyalty and refrain from any remarks regarding the usefulness of a Naval Officer.
Very tempted though...

The guy who sent the original post wanted some boat to go sailing with his new girlfriend....

The obvious answer is the Hobie Cat 16 (not that you get real fine tuned teaching in boatskills, it is difficult to push to the absolute limit but forgives many mistakes).....

But consider the 8ft X 8 ft soft trampoline to get a bit of relaxing moments if the dying wind leaves you in a sunny desert spot somewhere, after a reasonably thrilling bit of sailing.

That'(s what the advertsing calls the Hobie way of life
