N12 wooden mast

Post by chris »

I have a 20' wooden mast which I recon is from a 12 but may be suitable for other similar boats too (early Grad etc?) , One diamond , some but not all other fittings, the wood is good it is straight. the glued joint may need redoing. Very liight. Stored inside. WOULD LOVE TO GET IT OUT OF MY WAY!

a tenner or a few pints at the Nationals and it's yours - or I'll have to acquire an old 12 to put it on -no, no, no.

Also a "new" cotton sail.
I bought this off ebay a while ago. It is an unused sail from the '60s. no numbers or class sign the only markings written in ink say 14ft dinghy and the date which is something in 1964 I think. The cotton is a little heavier than the other sails I have and it is short and fat rather than tall and thin. (I can't remember the measurements but they are on the thread when a TV props dept were looking for a boat to use in Poirot, there are some photos there too.)
It's certainly not a Merlin sail so I have no use for it but I'm sure someone can.
Offers invited.

Hi Chris,

I have a feeling that we have talked about this mast before....

was this the one that I measured one time up at Clywedog??

I am still looking for a mast for Conquest my 1952 Holt Canoe.

If it would fit I would certainly like it.....but something makes me think I have measured it in the past and figured that it wouldn't work.

Guess I could extend it.....now I know how!

Will measure this w/end and get back to you

cheers

That's quick Ed! yes I think we did talk about this before. I'll check some measurements for you. I think the one at Clywedog was another one though same length but heavier if I remember. In the end I think you didn't think that one would do so Neil took it.

Hi Chris - not been on the Forum for a while and just spotted your post about the wooden mast.
Do you still have it or has it already been put to good use?
Pls can you give me a call if it's still available (07773 685431)
Thanks
Tim

I have what I think is a Wayfarer Mast?? The measurements are right anyway and a wooden Wayfarer was sold by the same seller at the same time....as I bought Leader 264.......

I have as suggested by Chris removed the fittings and on testing the glued join was able to split the mast in half without any tools!

It is 22' 9" long and the spruce is in good condition.

e-mail me for more exact measurements and pictures if interested.....

......also if anyone has a spare Leader mast...........21'....

hardyalan@talktalk.net

Restoration NOT going to plan!
