Less than 90 minutes from here!
If dates are ok then i will come over with or without Demon just to say hello and take a look at other boats and see what goes on!

Cheers

I was out on the River Orwell in a friends Sabre 27 and we saw some Dinghies sailing off a pontoon, near to Levington.
They had bowsprits with kites but looked more like RS type hulls, only with Wayfairer sails. It was too overcast to get any adequate pictures but no doubt someones on here would be able to identify the class?

That seems about right having just read about the 3 aquired at Waldringfield!
I thought I was reasonably well versed in dinghy marks, but freely admit one does learn something new virtually every day.

Adding to the list of known Planker Hornets, my friend Phil has his dad's 1958 example. It's in pretty original condition apart from the 60s Holt Allen Mast.
I've been trying rather hard over the last couple of years to get him to sail it! He's sailed the aubergine L***r more and even that's only been out a few times.

John,

any idea of the sail number? Be good to add it to the list.

The nearest event for you (and me) is Hunts Sailing Club at St Ives Cambs.

A very pleasant club, with great well organized sailing...

Nick,

I sailed there last this year, very friendly club and good sailing. Will certainly go again.

Well, took the old girl out today and didnt do very well at all! There again, look at the condition of the sails! Think i need some newer ones.

Looking on the bright side, it took on no water apart from what came though the centre board slot, so im pretty happy with that!

Not me helming, got one of the lads to helm for me while i tried sorting the spinnaker (with not a great deal of success).

Demon,

Just from a quick look at your pics, the mast looks very, very upright! I think my first thought would be to rake the mast head back until you have about 10" of rake on the static set up.

Being upright will NOT mark you out as a Horneteer - they are normally found in the horizontal mode!!

I agree too. But I do not think today was a day for CVRDA boats to do well. We struggled in the Jollyboat this afternoon, very shifty, very nice in the winter sun though.

Thanks chaps, as im very new to the Hornet all comments welcome (well nearly all)
I know with the Wayfarer there are mearsurments to the top of the mast to get the correct angle, Are there any measurements that i should be looking at to get the correct mast rake?

Still looking forward to a bit of wind to get the plank sliding, i found as crew the plank was too big and in the way in the very light winds, but boy aint it easy to get it over on a roll tack!!!
